AMD Is Launching Barcelona in September 2007, Puma in 2008 and Fusion in 2009

AMD talked about its schedule for next two years in its Asia Analyst Tour on August 27 in Taipei.

AMD has totally fixed time table for its upcoming platforms:

- Opteron server processors (Barcelona) are coming out in early September 2007 at core frequencies up to 1.9GHz and 2.0GHz. They are used for the energy efficient and standard performance markets.

- faster CPUs for clock speed at 2.3GHz or above for these segments targeting the high performance sector coming at year-end 2007 and beyond

- Puma notebook platform will be released in 2008

- The first Fusion processor, Eagle platform featuring Falcon, will be released in 2009. It features combination of a CPU (Bulldozer) and GPU core in a single package

In earlier report, AMD explained well about Puma platform. Puma supports Intel Centrino, current Santa Rosa platform and upcoming Montevina, platform. Puma platform includes ATI Radeon graphics, NVIDIA chipset and graphics technologies, and higher wireless technologies.

Puma features the 65nm “Griffin” mobile processor and “780G″ mobile chipset. The platform will provide longer battery life, graphics and video processing enhancements to support Vista graphic features and directX10, and improvement in overall performance.

Wikipedia explains that AMD Fusion is the codename for a future next-generation microprocessor design and the product of the merger between AMD and ATI, combining general processor execution as well as 3D geometry processing and other functions of today's GPUs into a single package.

Also, AMD has mention about its up coming platform for desktop PCs.

AMD said:

Also scheduled for the end of the year is the Spider platform (RD7XX chipsets and 65nm Phenom processors with 2MB L3 cache) for desktops. This will be followed by Hardcastle (RS7XX chipsets and 45nm Phenom CPUs with 6MB L3 cache) in 2008.

Intel- the major competitor of AMD is ahead and launched its 65 nm quad-core Xeon 5300 “Clovertown” processors last year. Intel is going to release its quad-core "Harpertown"- quad-core processor based on Intel's upcoming Penryn family and uses smaller, 45-nanometer scale components in 11 November 2007.

Vista SP1 Coming in Q1 2008; Windows XP SP3 Coming in Next Few Weeks

Microsoft has made a good schedule to launch Vista SP1, at last. Yesterday Microsoft announced that Vista Service Pack 1 (Vista SP1) will be launched in Q1 2008. But before that the company is shipping a beta version to 10,000 to 15,000 testers next month.

I know that the users specially the businesses that have got Vista and are desperately waiting for Vista SP1 have got sad that they have to wait until next year. But I’m giving you another good news item that even now you can get Vista SP1 if you are running Vista on your laptop or desktop PC. How? It is very easy. Just update your Vista with the automatic service.

Zipkin senior product manager for Microsoft
said:

Microsoft will deliver SP1 over its automatic update services to consumers running Windows Vista. Business customers can use this service as well or roll out a stand-alone version of SP1, which has a bigger footprint, through whatever software a company uses for pushing updates to desktops.

The main duty of Vista SP1 (like Windows XP Service packs1 and 2) is to update Vista OS and fix bugs. Also, it enhances the performance, reliability, and compatibility of applications running in Vista and will not break any applications already running on the OS (but this is the problem you can easily face when you work with Windows XP SP2). It means that Vista SP1 works with Vista much better than Windows XP SP2 working with XP.

Vista SP1 will contain the 20 updates that already released over Microsoft's automatic update services and thousands of Vista files will be changed. Nonetheless the size of Vista SP1 (50MB) will be less than half of XP SP2.

Zipkin about the performance features and reliability of Vista SP1 said:

Specifically, SP1 will fix performance features, such as allowing for the computer to resume functionality after being in the Hibernate or Standby state, and also reduce the time it takes between a user hitting CTRL/ALT/DELETE to get the log-in prompt so they can log on to Windows, Zipkin said.

Microsoft also in SP1 will improve the performance of Internet Explorer 7 to speed Javascript processing and reduce CPU utilization so sites running AJAX (Asynchronous Javascript and XML) can run faster, he said.

On the reliability side, the update will reduce the likelihood of Vista crashing from a vague "search protocol handler" error message that users have reported happens frequently, Zipkin said. The company also fixed other common crashes users have reported through Microsoft's automatic reporting service.

So far, Microsoft has sold Vista licenses to 60 million. And 42 million licenses have been sold to businesses through its volume licensing program.

Additionally, Microsoft is releasing Windows XP SP3- the ultimate and the last update for Windows XP within next few weeks.

Windows XP SP3 will comprise previously released updates and a small number of new fixes. It shouldn't dramatically alter the XP experience, according to Microsoft.

Acer and Gateway: A detailed Analysis

The interesting thing about global economy is that it is changing constantly. You never know what will happen next. The element of surprise is always there. Very companies can expect to remain large for a long time. American companies are famous for their acquisitions. They want to buy companies from around the world. On the other hand, for many Asian companies, the main goal is to become profitable and attract an American company to buy them. Of course, this is the age of globalization and many things are changing and will continue to change. Take the example of Acer’s purchase of Gateway.

Gateway is perhaps a company of the past. It has a very successful history but it is not doing so well for the last few years. Wikipedia wrote:

Gateway's stock price has consistently trended lower since 2000 when in January shares were valued at over $60 but now as of August 7, 2007, the share price sells at $1.14. This information is reported from Yahoo! Finance

So, you can see how much Gateway stock price has plummeted in the last 7 years. This is bad news for Gateway bosses and the bad scenario of stock price indicates that Gateway needs a major shake up. I guess that Acer can provide that shake up.

On the other hand, Acer is doing fine at this moment. Acer bosses are on an expansive mood and they want to get more and become larger. Wikipedia wrote:

In 2000, Acer spun off its manufacturing operation (as Wistron Corporation) to focus itself on branding business. In deciding to support the sales of its product lines through specific marketing activities that best utilise distribution channels, Acer grew worldwide while its labour force contracted. In 2002, the pan Acer Group employed 39,000 people supporting dealers and distributors in more than 100 countries. Revenues reached US $12.9 billion that year. By 2005, Acer employed 7,800 people throughout the world while maintaining a global sales and service network. Revenues were US$4.9 billion in 2003 and US$11.31 billion in 2006. Acer's North American market share slipped over the past few years while the European market share has gone up.

So, Acer seems to have the cash to buy Gateway.

About this matter, SMH reported:

ACER, the Taiwan-based maker of personal computers, has reached agreement to acquire Gateway for $US710 million ($861 million), a move that records the competitive landscape in the US and abroad.

The deal gives Acer a well-known brand name in the US market and better access to crucial retailers, such as Best Buy and Circuit City, computer industry analysts said. The deal may also help Acer build market share in Europe.

Through a previous agreement, Gateway has the first right of refusal to buy Packard Bell, a computer maker with a relatively strong presence in Western Europe. Acer indicated on Monday that Gateway intended to acquire Packard Bell.

This deal will help both the companies. Gateway is losing its independence but it is getting a good support from Acer. Thus, Gateway is getting a second life and is getting some much needed cash. On the other hand, this will help Acer to have stronger presence in the American and European markets. Acer is not doing so fine in the American market. Now, because of buying Gateway, Acer will find it easier to operate in American market at least.

This Acer Gateway deal has another implication too. You know that Lenovo is a Chinese company and Lenovos is trying to make itself larger. Lenovo is in direct competition with Acer as they make similar products and both of them are from Asia.

EE Times wrote:

In a regulatory filing on August 28, Gateway Inc. disclosed that Acer must within the next two weeks deposit approximately $48 million (35 million euro) into an escrow account to enable Gateway close on its offer to acquire European computer vendor Packard-Bell B.V.

Lenovo, which made international headlines with its purchase of IBM Corp.'s personal computer business, had been in discussions the last several weeks to acquire Packard-Bell as part of its global expansion plans.

Gateway in its filing referred to the "River Transaction," the term it is using to describe the Packard-Bell deal, and said it had agreed with Acer to "effect the River Transaction as promptly as possible."

Acer is expected to fund all costs related to the Packard-Bell deal, according to Gateway, which secured the rights to make the first offer to the European PC maker when it acquired eMachines.

This will not make Lenovo bosses happy at all and it will even more competition and some bitterness among Lenovo and Acer.

So, what is your idea about this matter?

ThinkPad Laptops Are More Ruggedized than Dell Latitude D620 and D630 ATG

As you Know full rugged laptops are very expensive and heavy and of course they don’t come with the latest cutting edge components. But there are some laptops in market that are some ruggedized for normal use (like spill proof, resistant against shaking or vibration) while their price is totally affordable like Dell Latitude D620ATG, Latitude D630 ATG (new version of D620 ATG), they can tolerate extra pressure and dropping more than other laptops.

IBM Lenovo in its blog has tried to prove that ThinkPad Laptops are rugged notebooks and even they are more ruggedized than Latitude D620 and D630 ATG. And also, they have equal or more durability than Panasonic semi-rugged laptops (like Toughbook CF-51 and CF-74) and Panasonic business rugged laptops (like Toughbook CF-W5, the CF-T5)!

Lenovo explains that for proving its claim it has tested its ThinkPad with MIL-STD 810F testing standard.

Military spec (MIL SPEC) testing is considered to be the standard in the industry for judging machine toughness and MIL-STD 810F is best for electronic devices as it deals with electronics hardware like PCs. MIL-STD 810F tests the resistance and durability of hardware devices like laptops against 25 factors or subcategories such as temperature, humidity, shock, dust, fungus, and explosive atmosphere or ballistic shock.

To continue, Lenovo explains that most vendors even with their “ruggedized” systems only pass a 4 to 6 of these subcategories like humidity and dust resistance.

ThinkPad T61 and ThinkPad R61 successfully could pass 5.5 MIL Spec tests while Dell Latitude D620 and D630 ATG only passed 4 MIL spec tests - low pressure, humidity, vibration, and sand/dust.

I am quoting the technical result from the lenovoblogs:

The results are great news and a great testament to our engineers. We passed the following tests: Altitude (500.4), Humidity (507.4), Vibration (514.5), High Temperature (501.4), and Temperature Shock (503.4). We almost passed blowing sand and dust test (510.4), but there was an error message on boot. However, the system did boot normally after we bypassed the error message. I count that as a half victory — so a ThinkPad has successfully passed 5.5 MIL Spec tests.

we passed more MIL Spec tests with one of our “standard” systems than several of our competitors did with their “ruggedized” systems. Dell’s ruggedized Latitude D620 and D630 ATG only passed 4 MIL spec tests - low pressure, humidity, vibration, and sand/dust. These are the exact same tests. The only difference is that our standard system did this with no modifications, at roughly half the price, and was almost 1kg / 2 lbs. lighter in weight

.

So, ThinkPad laptops are Ruggedized Machines!

Japanese Experts: All Lithium-ion Batteries Are Dangerous

Japanese experts have warned about all sorts of Lithium-ion batteries that the fundamental technology behind this battery is risky and hazardous. They have emphasized that for consumer safety the design of this battery must change totally.

Professor Masataka Wakihara of the Tokyo Institute of Technology has said:

C

hanges must be made to the manufacturing process to ensure that they are robust enough for everyday use.
Battery companies are still learning because the technology is young,

But there is a fundamental flaw with the way lithium-ion batteries are currently designed and if the companies genuinely care about safety, they need to completely change their production methods. A lithium-ion battery is quite a dangerous little box of energy.

Sofar, Sony has recalled 10 million batteries in 2006 for the fear of overheating.
Even Nokia has announced that 46 million batteries in its phone handsets may burst into flame.

Currently, Lithium-ion batteries power most laptops and mobile phones.

Delay on Dell Inspiron and XPS Notebooks Extended to November

Dell has accepted the longer delay to November on its Inspiron 1420, Inspiron 1520, Inspiron 1720, and XPS m1330. Yesterday Dell explained the reason of delay on Inspiron laptops and earlier it has explained the reason for XPS m1330.

Although Dell has emphasize that premium colors are the main reason of delay, “the Texas-based PC maker is said to be encountering enough trouble that shortages could last until October or November” Electronista reports.

Dell has not said that when this problem will exactly finish. Fortunately, Dell could ship nearly all of its systems in a single color.

Electronista wrote:

Veteran multi-color notebook makers such as Sony have refined their processes but still produce fewer colors, with the VAIO CR selling in half as many colors as the eight Dell has offered in its first attempt.

Many users think that coloring laptops could be as easy as coloring cars. In Direct2Dell weblog I saw many comments that readers first compared these two things and then they got more annoyed from Dell. But the thing that Electronista is explaining shows that this idea is wrong.

Well, I think it is better that Dell first limit the color options and then gradually offers all the 8 color options for its laptops. Offering less color options is much better than delivering laptops so late, Isn’t it?

Sony’s New Sugar-Based Bio Battery Can Operate Three to Four Times Longer

Sony could introduce a biodegradable eco-friendly battery that can give more energy efficient than current options. This Bio Battery produces electricity from sugar. And it is a renewable fuel.

It easily works at room temperature and by using enzymes to oxidize sugars generates more energy-efficient battery than metal-based methods. So far, researchers could attain a maximum of 20 percent efficiency but they hope that soon they can improve and gain three to four times longer on a single charge than current battery technology.

The only difference between the new battery and existing technology will the new one will contain air holes to allow oxygen into the cell.

According to Slashdot, The bio battery measure 39 millimeters cubed and delivers 50mW.

I am quoting some lines from PC world website:

Minteer, an electrochemist at Saint Louis University in the U.S. said that her technology is believed to be the longest-lasting and most powerful of its type to date.

One of the first applications envisioned for the sugar fuel cell is a portable cell phone recharger that would contain special cartridges that would be pre-filled with a sugar solution and easily replaced after use. Ultimately, Minteer hopes that the sugar battery can be used as a stand-alone battery replacement in a wide range of portable electronic devices.

It is expected that this battery reaches the market in three to five years. So, it can be a green alternative to current Lithium-ion batteries soon.

Dell Explains Delays on Inspiron 1420, 1520, and 1720: Paint stuff and Short Supply

After many days, Dell at last decided to explain the problem of delays on Inspiron 1420, 1520, and 1720 notebooks.

Well, Dell has repeated some of the excuses that it mentioned in past for XPS M1330; matter of premium colors. But the second reason is new and some reasonable.

Dell first explains in its blog, that in matter of shipment, two factors play most important roles: 1) the order date and 2) parts availability.

Then it continues that answering to the questions of buyers about the delay is not easy as the supply picture changes frequently. And nowadays a new factor has started to create more delay for shipment. A component is in short supply. Well, this is not impossible. Few days ago I posted news about this problem that soon we should see delay of shipment from HP and Acer too.

But again Dell emphasizes that “color options are the main source of delay on Inspiron notebooks”.

I am quoting some lines from Direct2Dell:

To date, color options are the main source of delay on Inspiron notebooks. Basic colors like black are easier to produce. Premium colors and finishes like we use on the Inspiron models introduce complexity into the process, and that's holding things up. Just as Alex mentioned in his post about colors on the M1330, producing smaller quantities is not the issue—it's mainly an issue of scale. We'll continue to work directly with suppliers to ultimately increase our production on color notebooks

While premium colors are the main reason for delay of our Inspiron notebooks, displays are a secondary reason—some screen sizes are in short supply.

The way that Dell tries to convince buyers with this post and previous ones this question comes to mind that “will the problem of long weeks delay decrease if users just order their laptops with black color?”

There is no doubt that Inspiron notebooks or XPS m1330 are attractive because of their good features with affordable prices. So, I think many users are ready to accept the limitation of only two options of black or white color for their laptops rather than waiting for more than 5 weeks to get their orders.

Google Is Going to Distribute Goobuntu on Desktop Linux

Ubuntu is very familiar to Linux fans and they know that Ubuntu is a popular desktop Linux distribution based on Debian GNU/Linux but with a stronger focus on usability, regular releases, and ease of installation and use only free software.

But have you heard about Goobuntu?
Google is trying to have its own distribution of Linux for desktop. So, it has named a version of popular Ubuntu desktop Linux distribution, based on Debian and the Gnome desktop, as 'Goobuntu'.

Well, So far everyone knows that Google is working on this project but there is no further information about Goobuntu yet.

As you know this web log is only about laptop computers So, I’m just quoting some lines from theregister website about this news and if you are interested you can read more in that website:

Google has already demonstrated an interest in building a presence on the desktop. At CES Las Vegas this month, it announced the Google Pack, a collection of desktop software bundled together for easy downloading.

The pack includes many apps which compete directly with the Windows bundle, such as Google Talk, Google Desktop, Mozilla Firefox, the Trillian instant messenger client, RealPlayer, and Picasa photo management.

However, entering the desktop software world would be a huge step. Making Goobuntu as easy to use as XP will require a lot more development. It's unlikely to be ready for showtime any time soon, and it's possible Google itself hasn't finalised where the project should go.

Whatever Google's intentions, the input of Google engineers and developers, writing new features and fixing bugs, will be a huge boost to the Ubuntu project.

According to theregister website, Goobuntu.com domain has been registered but not by Google!
I myself opened the page. After big logo of Ubuntu and the name of website, there was a search option powered by Google. And I couldn’t find and redirecting to Cuban portal.

Dell XPS M1730 is a new version of famous gaming laptop XPS m1710.

Wall Street Journal: The Vostro 1500 is just an OK laptop

Last month, Dell introduced Vostro laptops which are a new sub-brand of laptops for small businesses with less than 25 employees that have no full-time IT departments

Dell Vostro 1400 with 14.1" starting at $549, Vostro1500 with 15.4" starting at $549, Vostro 1000 with 15.4" starting at $449 and Vostro 1700 with 17" starting at $799, are the models from budget range to expensive range available in market now and you can order.

A writer of Wall Street Journal has got chance to test an expensive Dell Vostro 1500 and the consequence was “The Vostro 1500 is just an OK laptop

The Vostro system he tested featured two gigabytes of memory and a 160-gigabyte hard disk, plus an extra-large battery and a built-in Sprint cellular modem, and running on Windows XP cost $1,701. Of course the price of this configuration has decreased to $1,327. Also, the optional Sprint service requires a monthly fee, usually $60.

In the article he mentions that there are some good facilities include:

-The Vostro 1500 performed just fine, running quickly and easily connecting to Wi-Fi network.

-The battery life is fair for this bulky laptop. You can get five hours, at most, in normal use

-There are different facilities that you can enjoy: a network setup program called Network Assistant; PC Tuneup to maintain software and an online backup service that stores up to 10 gigabytes of data.

- Choice of Windows XP
- The option to order a computer without any trial software

But He emphasizes that “These are all useful, but none is new or tailored to small businesses. All were already available for Dell’s consumer models, albeit for small fees.”

The bad sides:

-There was no security software, not even the usual 90-day subscription.
Although you can get the option of the 90-day subscription free of charge and buy a 15-month security package for $79, it shows that many small businesses should already have access to security software. Also, installing security package after the fact could be a problem.

-The Vostro system with XP lacks a secure Web browser. It comes with the old, insecure Internet Explorer 6.0 instead of Mozilla’s Firefox or Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 7.0 which is much safer than prior version. So, you yourself have to replace the browser.

- The Vostro doesn’t come bundled with any small-business software.
- The system is heavy and thick and is not suitable for regular traveling. The configuration of this article weighed seven pounds.

In the end, the writer has viewed that the laptop is So-So:

Overall, the Vostro 1500 is just an OK laptop, which isn’t different enough from consumer models to really earn the small-business designation it claims.

Tip: It is good to know that Dell has made different laptop line up for different use. The line for very small businesses is called Vostro. All Dell’s consumer models, both laptop and desktop, are called Inspirons, a name formerly reserved only for laptops. Big business models are called Latitude, Optiplex or Precison. High-performance consumer models are called XPS.

AGEIA PhysX 100M: First PhysX Processor for Notebooks and Computers Revealed

AGEIA Technologies have announced their first PhysX Processor “AGEIA PhysX 100M” for gaming laptops and desktop Computer. The PhysX 100M is designed for high-performance gaming notebooks. Therefore, AGEIA optimizes the balance of power, speed and cores to enable a level of performance equal to that of the original PhysX processor.

According to the AGEIA website, “AGEIA PhysX Mobile Technology features incredibly low power and thermal design with power dissipation of nearly 10W under gameplay conditions. It also includes active power management to throttle down the clock in high heat system conditions and reduce the clock when not active.”

AGEIA explains that this new device aims to provide "the most intensely realistic gaming and entertainment experience to PC gamers".

So, this technology will be used for professional gaming laptop like Falcon Northwest and Alienware.

The PCI-Express AGEIA cards are currently available in market within price of $200-$250. So, if any gamer wants he can buy and add it to its desktop computer.

I am quoting some lines from arstechnica:

Among the titles that take advantage of the PhysX right now are a host of games like City of Villains, and Tom Clancy games like GRAW, and GRAW2 on the PC. In the future, Unreal Tournament 3 will also support it. However, gamers haven't taken too well to PhysX for a host of reasons.

Primarily, PhysX cards from BFG Tech and Asus cost in the area of $140 through resellers. From the beginning, adding in an additional card for physics hasn't really sparked interest in gamers due to the lack of titles. In other words, gamers building new systems don't exactly see dropping more dough on at PPU as a necessity. But (upcoming) Unreal Tournament 3 could provide the push AGEIA needs, if the PPU turns out to be a must-have item and UT3 is a must-have game.

It shows that AGEIA PhysX chips haven’t became popular among gamers especially, they use desktop computer and it is only because of a lack of game titles supporting PhysX.

Overclockable Intel Core 2 Extreme X7900 Is Officially Announced

After one month releasing first Core 2 Extreme “Intel Core 2 Extreme X7800 (2.6 GHz)”, Intel has launched its second gaming processor “Core 2 Extreme X7900

Overclockable Intel Core 2 Extreme X7900 comes with 2.8GHz, 4MB L2 cache and 800MHz FSB, and it fits to Intel Santa Rosa platform. It is priced at $851 USD.

This processor is based on relies on a 65-nanometer codenamed “Merom”. It has the power consumption of 44Watts means that this new CPU is not as cool as Intel core 2 Due processors that use 35 watts.

I am quoting some lines from pess release about the way this new processor operates:

The two cores in the processor share the load of elaborate calculating processes. For example, while one computing core takes charge of calculating a game’s physics engine, the second core can work on rendering and on the game’s logic, or can devote itself to other tasks such as running a virus scan in the background.

In addition, for experienced enthusiasts who desire more capability, the Intel Core 2 Extreme mobile processor bus ratio locks (over speed protection) have been removed. This offers added technical flexibility in customizing the system so OEMs can unleash even more performance.

Support for high end discrete graphics including dual graphic cards also enables a visual delight for graphics intensive games – both at home and on the go. And to assure that the battery doesn’t run out of steam too soon, both processors support power-saving technologies of the latest Intel Core 2 Duo processors for notebooks such as “Enhanced Deeper Sleep” and “Dynamic FSB Frequency Switching.”

This CPU will be available within the next four weeks in the laptops from Asus and Dell (Asus G2 and a Dell M1730).

Additionally, Intel has mentioned to Intel X38 chipset which is the base of high-end gaming laptops. Itis based on upcoming 45-nanometer processor codenamed “Yorkfield.” With this chipset, the option of running two discrete graphics cards becomes possible. This chipset is compatible with DDR3.

This chipset can support all the current CPUs include “Intel Core 2 Extreme, Intel Core 2 Quad and Intel Core 2 Duo processors, including the Intel Viiv processor technology and new processors build on the latest 45-nanometer process, are supported.”

According to pess release the X38, is scheduled to become available before year’s end.

Delay of Shipment Spreads: Expect to Suffer Delay from HP and Acer and Others

If you are too much annoyed from Dell because of long delay of shipment for its attractive for their Inspiron 1420, 1520, and 1720 laptops or XPS M1330, think again!

This story is not only limited to Dell but it is spreading among other laptop makers like HP and Acer too!

DigiTimes has posted an article that multiple notebook component suppliers are suffering serious component shortages and naturally, this will create delay of shipment for the buyers. At this moment, students will suffer most as they need their new laptops in school. Main shortages have happened in LCD display panels, analog ICs, battery cells, optical drives, GPUs from AMD and Nvidia, printed circuit boards (PCBs) and aluminum-based capacitors.

I am quoting some lines from DigiTimes:

All top-three branded notebook suppliers have been impacted. Dell's 8-series consumer notebooks are in short supply, with Taiwan retailer Tsann Kuen still awaiting delivery of the first batch, according to industry sources. The Dell notebook shortage has also been observed in China, they added.

Acer, which is said to be seeing a shortage of graphics chips from AMD and Nvidia, is also having delivery problems, the industry sources noted. Severe shortages have been observed for the company's 12.1-inch panel lineup and Hewlett-Packard (HP) is also encountering similar problems with its latest 12.1-inch notebooks, they noted.

Battery makers have announced that battery shortage will remain until 2008.

Also, optical drive makers have mentioned that “channel makers from Europe and the US have resumed their orders from July, after having kept inventory at only 1-2 weeks due to seeing severe DVD burner price competition earlier. Since most optical drive makers have reserved their capacity for OEM and ODM customers, they will find it difficult to meet the demand from channel customers.

This kind of shortage at this moment that demand of buying laptops has increased may change the current price of laptops. What do you think? Do you think that the current laptops in market become more expensive?

Dell is Silent: Delays on Inspiron 1420, 1520, and 1720 and XPS M1330 Continues

Although Dell has tried so much to explain the reasons of delay of shipment on XPS M1330 laptop, there are many consumers that are annoyed about the delay of shipment for their Inspiron 1420, 1520, and 1720 laptops. The interesting part is that so far, Dell has tried to explain and apologize for only XPS M1330 but it never tried to talk about the delays that consumers are suffering for other models. Also, the last explanation was on August 3rd and after that Dell didn’t publish any post about delay of shipment anymore.

Dell is silent, but problem is there yet!

In past if I felt some sympathy for Dell, now I only feel sympathy for consumers that they have to wait only more than 6 or 7 weeks to get their laptops. This is really frustrating.

I wish Dell start to respect its consumers more. I am sure that Dell, the world’s second laptop maker knows that in this modern age consumers have major roll to develop the business of a company.

Naturally, the biggest lost for Dell is that the frustrated consumers will change their mind and try to order laptop from another brand like this forum poster that is trying to find another computer ( from among Toshiba notebooks) that can be replacement of Dell Inspiron 1520 . Or some of them get such angriness that they will not want to be Dell consumers anymore.

For touching the problem deeper I am quoting some lines from different website.

Cnet published an article about this on July 31st. It wrote:

the notebook was originally announced in late June, but estimated delivery dates ran between four and six weeks for some customers, which is longer than some anticipated. On Wednesday, the blog's manager, Lionel Menchaca, said he was looking into the issue. More than 100 people piled on in the comments section, complaining of poor customer service and miscommunication during the ordering process. On Sunday, Alex Gurzen, senior vice president of consumer products, got involved, posting an apology and (sort of) explaining the reason for the delay in shipments. Since then, commenters have continued airing their grievances openly.

According to this article, Dell is not the only company has faced the problem delay of shipment. In June (two months ago) the Lenovo T60 and T61 were slow to get out of the factory.

Computerworld mentioned in its article posted on August 6th:

Alex Gruzen, a senior vice president in Dell's consumer products group, also said on the Direct2Dell blog that the company has shipped only 10% of the backlogged orders for the laptop it has touted as "the world's thinnest 13.3-inch notebook" since a June 26 launch…

And this article reminded some of the comments of annoyed buyers that canceled their order or yet they are waiting August finishes.

Fortunately Dell has added a sentence to its particular laptops for ordering some of the colors to aware the consumers about the matter of delay of shipment:

May delay your Inspiron 1420N ship date” in Dell Inspiron 1420N website.

May delay your Inspiron 1420 ship date” in Dell Inspiron 1420 it is only for three colors but for each Dell Inspiron 1520 and Dell Iinspiron 1720 you can see this sentence for five colors.

DO you have any news about delay of Dell’s laptop’s shipment? Have you ever experienced it before from another laptop maker? Do you have any suggestion or advice to Dell or any other laptop makers? Share your good or bad experience with us in the comment section.

The same source today leaked info of another Dell system that will be unveiled on 31 August. The M6300 is a powerful mobile workstation with 17-inch widescreen display. The Santa Rosa based desktop replacement is a successor to Precision M90.

electronista reports:

Dell is about to release one of its most powerful notebooks to date as a mobile workstation, Precision M6300 with 8GB of RAM.

Unlike most leaks, the new information points to a specific worldwide release date of August 31st, when prices should also be available. A base system is known to start with a 1.8GHz Core 2 Duo and a 17-inch, 1440x900 display but will have the option of a 1920x1200 matte or glossy screen as well as a Blu-Ray drive for extremely large backups and authoring HD movies.

And finally, laptoping informs:

The basic price for Merom-powered Dell Precision M90 is $1814.

From all these descriptions, it is clear that this laptop is going to be an important expensive laptop for both professional businesses and gamers. And maybe it becomes a hot laptop like Inspiron 1420, Inspiron 1520/1521/1720/1721 and Dell Vostro 1500 and Vostro 1700. I just hope that Dell open the hands of consumers for choosing their favorite colors for their chosen laptop like those popular Inspiron and Vostro laptops. It will be very attractive if Dell offers 8 color options for customizable super fast Precision M6300 laptop.

Dell Linux Laptops Becoming International

Dell has officially announced in its weblog, direct2Dell that after releasing some Dell laptop in US in May, it plans to offer certain laptops and desktop PCs based on Linux to Europe and China.

It happens as many consumers from these two continents requested Dell to spread its Linux laptops and desktop PCs.

Initially, the Inspiron 6400n laptop and Inspiron 530n desktop PC will be available in the United Kingdom, Germany, and France. These two Computers run on Ubuntu 7.04.

You can check the following links for further information:

United Kingdom: http://www.dell.co.uk/ubuntu

France: http://www.dell.fr/ubuntu

Germany: http://www.dell.de/ubuntu

Dell mentions that before Ubuntu, they had offered Red Hat Linux as an option for Dell Precision workstation and PowerEdge server customers.

Also, Dell and Novell decided to offer “SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 factory-installed on select consumer notebooks and desktops in China."

Those fans in Europe can obtain an Ubuntu-packed 6400n for approximately £329 ($665) or 530n for £399 ($806) right now.

I am reporting some lines from direct2Dell:

In the coming weeks, we will share more details on which notebooks and desktops we will offer, support options, and more. Our plan is to offer SLED 10 on systems to meet the broad needs of our customers.

Beyond the Ubuntu expansion, we also have worked with Red Hat to develop a JBoss-based solution to help customers migrate from legacy applications. Because the press release summarizes this better than I can, here's more detail from it. This new offering features three solutions:

-JBoss Enterprise Application Platform—This combines the JBoss Application Server, Hibernate and JBoss Seam with Dell hardware and the customer's choice of Linux or Windows. The platform makes it easy to develop, deploy and manage enterprise Java applications on any operating system, while still remaining flexible and affordable.

-Web Application—This offering combines the Red Hat Application Stack, including the JBoss Enterprise Application Platform and Red Hat Enterprise Linux, with Dell hardware. It is ideal for running Java or LAMP applications and provides a simple, integrated solution for customers already running an open-source operating system with legacy proprietary middleware, or for customers looking to deploy multiple open-source solutions.

-Web Edge—Combining Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Dell hardware, this solution helps customers take advantage of the open-source operating system for activities such as Web serving with Apache.

Keep in touch. In coming week I will give more information about Dell Linux laptops.

LEAKED: Vista SP1 under Analysis

Vista SP1 hasn’t gone to public yet but apcmag could have access to Vista SP1 and has done deep analysis on it. The total conclusion and result of this analysis is optimistically.

-The first thing Vista SP1 solves is performance. We have heard from many users and experts that Vista runs on many systems slowly. But With Vista SP1 you can have different experience. It increases performance noticeably.

-The second advantage you can get from Vista SP1 is “far less hard drive thrashing and in general, the system seems much smoother and more responsive” apcmag states.

-Additionally, another noticeable change is obviously the version number.

“Windows Vista has a build number of 6.0.6000, whereas this build is 6.0.6001 (full version number is 6001.16549). This is quite interesting as one of the much-anticipated (and officially acknowledged) changes in SP1 was to bring the Vista kernel up to the same kernel as that used in Windows 2008 (version 6.1).”

-Also, service packs don’t include new features but Vista SP1 has new ones. There is a new preservation application called “Create a Recovery Disc”.

apcmag explains that

“This isn’t the same thing as creating a backup of the system to DVD – instead this process creates a recovery DVD which you can use with system recovery options if you don’t have an original Windows DVD or you can’t access OEM recovery tools.”

This is a good article and I advise you to read whole article for sure. This article shows that Vista is ready to finish many complains and bring more satisfaction for users by Vista SP1.

Intel in the OLPC Bandwagon: Is Microsoft Next?

There is a proverb that everyone wants to worship the rising sun. I would not say that OLPC (One Laptop Per Child) project is still a rising sun. After all, it has not reached in the hands of millions of children yet and we still do not know about the problems of this laptop. However, it is clear that OLPC has started to make some headway in some countries in the world and within the next 5-10 years, millions of people will become user of OLPC. So, Intel is now joining the bandwagon of OLPC.

The funny thing is that only year ago, Intel and Microsoft bosses were against OLPC and they felt that together they could put up a serious competition to OLPC in the form of Classmate PC. Of course, they were worried about losing market share. Microsoft’s Windows is the most popular Operating System (OS) while Intel has the largest market share in the processor market. Now, Intel bosses have realized that OLPC is going to be the rising sun and they must join the bandwagon before it is too late. This realization will help Intel to keep its market share in the processor world.

I think that Intel has done the right thing by joining OLPC project. Losing market share is easy but gaining is difficult. 10 years ago, hardly anyone of us heard the name of Google. Now, in Internet, Google is the dominant force. Microsoft and Yahoo did not take the matter of online search very seriously and Google gave something better and captured the market share. If OLPC becomes a success then the condition of computer sector will change in the next 5 years. OLPC will capture a significant part of computer market. So, by joining OLPC, Intel is ensuring that its market share will not suffer.

This move from Intel will surely make Microsoft bosses to rethink their own strategy. I don’t think that Microsoft would join OLPC project as OLPC is using open source based OS which would not cost them any money. So, naturally, the spread of OLPC laptops will increase the market share of Linux OS at the expense of Windows. There had been rumor in the past that OLPC might have Windows support but it had been denied by OLPC. So, let us see what happens next.

Apple is serious to use the Multi-Touch of iPhone for MacBook’s touchpad and for this Apple has filled a new patent application called “Wide touchpad on a portable computer”. So, don’t get shock if next year Apple launches new MacBook Pro Laptops with Multi-Touch Touchpad.

OF course for this new Touchpad Apple has to use new some software and hardware wizardry to make it functional as there is a problem if your palms and hands activate the touchpad unwillingly. For solving this problem, Apple plans use some sensors that can recognize the position of the hands and fingers relative to keyboard and touchpad and also determine where your hands are and what they’re doing.

14.1" Intel-based Dell Inspiron 1420 starts at $769 offers an endless array of configurations and accessories to cover all different types of users, from the elementary school student, typical home user through to the mobile professional who need a terrific deal and more powerful business system than the Dell Latitude D430, or a more gaming capable than the Latitude D630.

Dell Inspiron 1420 laptop is a new version in Inspiron line up with new internal and external remodeling. You can have it very cheap with the “Santa Rosa” compatible Celeron M processor or choose one of the new processors ranging from 1.5GHz to 2.2GHz. Along two new budget models of the T5450, and the T5250 with up to T7100, T7300, and T7500 Core 2 Duo CPUs.

14.1" widescreen display can come with 1280×800 or 1440×900-resolution

two options of Intel GM965 chipset with integrated GMA X3100 graphics or PM965 chipset paired with NVIDIA GeForce Go 8400M GS 128 MB dedicated video card.

An optional Bluetooth, and an optional EVDO and HSDPA wireless broadband connections, make it professional for sophisticated users.

I am really impressed with it I/O features: four USB ports, FireWire port, VGA and S-Video outputs, , ExpressCard slot, a 8-in-1 memory card reader, 7.1 channel sound system, an optional built in 2 megapixel web camera ( for basic price you will not have the camera option).

You can have 8 color options to choose from and it weighs only 5.4 lbs with 6 cell battery. It runs on Windows Vista Home Basic or Vista Home Premium.

Here you can find all good sides and bad sides of Dell Inspiron1420.I have collected both sides from different websites of Cnet, notebook review, PC Magazine, and Dell website.

Cnet has examined Inspiron 1420 pricing at $1,698 that incorporates 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T7300 CPU, 2GB of RAM, 160GB 5,400rpm HDD, Nvidia GeForce 8400M GS Graphics, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth; mobile broadband and camera.

notebook review reviewed the system pricing at $1170 including tax and comes with Core 2 Duo T7300 CPU, 2 GB of RAM, 160 GB, 5400 RPM HDD, DVD burner, Intel Next Generation Wireless-N 4965 802.11A/B/G, Bluetooth 2.0 EDR adapter by Dell and Vista Home Premium OS.

PC Magazine reviewed the Inspiron 1420 system pricing at $1,099 comes with Intel Core 2 Duo T5450 (1.66 GHz) CPU, 2 GB of RAM, 120 GB 5400 rpm HDD, nVidia GeForce 8400M GS Graphics, Intel wireless 802.11n, and DVD burner and Windows Vista Home Premium.

In Dell website you can see three basic configurations that you yourself can customize it to higher price. This is really amazing that with the basic price of $769 you can get 1GB of RAM with Core 2 Due processor, Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 graphics and Dell Wireless 1390 802.11g.

Even the configurations that other websites reviewed are in budget level but have best components you could not imagine to get all of them with that amount of money.

Here are the good sides and bad sides of Inspiron 1420:

Good Sides:

-Excellent price.

-Discrete graphics. Or if you like you can use the Intel integrated graphics. The NVIDIA graphics card allows you to run games at the full resolution of the screen with many of the different quality options at higher levels. This graphics is good for occasional gamers. For example, it can perform Half-Life 2 very well, while it performs World of Warcraft in adequate level but it can’t play Extreme Condition (DirectX 10 trial).

- With a fast Core 2 Duo processor and a discrete graphics card courtesy of nVidia, it even has the ability to do occasional gaming.

- The option of Blu-ray drive
- DVD Viewing is decent. HD Content Viewing was nice too.

-Better-than-average battery life (3 hours and 30 minutes using the included nine-cell battery (a $50 upgrade) playing a DVD movie)

-Feature rich laptop.

- Laptop has got tough and strong hinges

-Very good typing experience. It has a comfortable keyboard but keys are not so flexible. The chunky mouse buttons reduced to a more manageable size, with small square media control buttons replacing the older round ones-which were hard to hit.

-While older, non-Santa Rosa CPUs are also available too. They knock only $100 off the cheapest Centrino Duo option.

-Speakers are located above the keyboard adjacent to the hinges for the screen. They can get quite loud, and offer decent sound for a laptop. Bass is completely lacking, as expected for speakers of this side, but they will certainly be adequate for filling a hotel room full of sound.

- Newly redesigned (softer, rounded edges and a thinner lid) Inspiron line adds Centrino Duo CPUs and color choices; except the black color, other colors have got satin finish that are fingerprint-proof.

- 1420's chassis is housed in magnesium alloy. It's a sturdier material that's typically found on business laptops and high-end ultraportables.

- Highly configurable with plenty of networking options; like 3G mobile broadband, draft-n wireless and Bluetooth

- Laptop screen is bright and the colors are good. The default settings do leave some colors, especially bright greens, somewhat washed out, but that is easily fixed by the multitude of tweaking options available in the nVidia control panel.

- The horizontal viewing angle is excellent.

-The display offers a typical 1280X800 resolution for 14.1" and 15.4" display but you can have higher resolution of a WXGA (1,440-by-900).

- A small, credit-card-size remote control that pops into card slot on the side.

- A 2.0-megapixel Webcam sits above the screen (of course for configurations with the price more than $1000)

- It has got LoJack theft protection software. Once installed the software will periodically contact the LoJack center and let it know that it’s around. Should your laptop be stolen, you call or go online and let them know, and when your laptop goes online, it will say “Hi, I’m here” and LoJack and the appropriate authorities will be able to go get it. Also, not only will someone know where your laptop is at all times, they can remove data from it remotely.

- In the center of the bezel rest the dual 3.5mm headphone jacks, so that you and a friend can listen to your tunes or, alternatively, you can get multi-channel sound out, and the single 3.5mm microphone jack

- it has got 8-1 media card reader includes Secure Digital (SD), SDIO, MultiMediaCard (MMC), Memory Stick, MemoryStick PRO, xD-Picture Card, Hi Speed-SD and Hi Density-SD

- It is a cool laptop

Bad Sides:

- Delay of shipment

- There is no option of LED screen.

-Not as radically reengineered as Dell's new XPS laptop;

-low starting price, but everything from the Webcam to Bluetooth costs extra.

- Heavier than competing systems

- The screen has some light leakage. But it is not significant.

- The Vertical viewing angle is limited. If you try to look down on the screen from above, the screen quickly becomes invisible.

- The black lid being of a slightly different texture than the other colored lids, and its predilection to picking up fingerprints

- It doesn’t come with any sort of modern security like fingerprint reader or TPM module.

- There is no touch-sensitive media keys that you find on the XPS M1330

According to Cnet, the Inspiron 1420 competes with such as the Lenovo ThinkPad T61 and the Gateway E-265M, with similar configuration in performance. IN multimedia tasking test Dell Inspiron 1420 is better than Gateway E-265M (Windows Vista Business Edition; 2.2GHz Intel Core Duo T7500; 2,048MB DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz; 256MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD2300; 100GB Seagate 7,200rpm) and IBM Lenovo ThinkPad T61 (Windows Vista Business Edition; 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T7300; 2,048MB DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz; 128MB Mobile Intel 965GM Express; 100GB Seagate 7,200rpm) respectively.

But in Adobe Photoshop CS2 image-processing test the result was opposite. Gateway E-265M and then Lenovo ThinkPad T61 were better than Dell Inspiron 1420.

In DVD battery drain test, Dell Inspiron 1420 was better than Gateway E-265M and then Lenovo Thinkpad T61.

In Apple iTunes encoding test Gateway E-265M was better than Dell Inspiron 1420 and then Lenovo Thinkpad T61.

This laptop with discrete graphics is very playable 29.8 frames per second in Quake 4 at 1,024x768, even with high-end options such as anti-aliasing turned on.

According to notebook review, the Inspiron 1420 laptop for overall performance scored 4,397 in PCMark05 and for 3D mark, it scored 1,354 in 3DMark06.

Expect Delay for Dell Inspiron 1420, 1520, and 1720 like Dell XPS M1330

So far, we’ve heard lots of excuses and apologize from Dell about long delay of XPS m1330’s shipment. Well, this is Dell’s fault that has offered such an attractive laptop with such an affordable price.

Like XPS m1330, Dell Inspiron 1420, 1520, and 1720 have got reputation and lots of fans who want to have one of these three laptops. The people, who have ordered, have started to face similar delay of shipment too.

Notebook review, in its Dell Forum has received many posts (over 9,000) concerning about delay of shipment of XPS m1330 and three new Dell Inspiron 1420, 1520, and 1720.

In regards to Inspiron delays, one forum poster has made a list of delays for Inspiron 1520 related to color.

Here is the list:
you order an Inspiron 1520:
Black, white = no delays
Brown lid = 5 days extra
Yellow lid = 6 days extra
Blue lid = 8 days extra
Red, green, pink lid = 11 days extra

You can read the full article in Notebook review.

OLPC XO Reviewed by 12-Year-Old: I’m sure kids around the world will really love it

As OLPC has been made for children round the world it is very nice to know an opinion of a 12-year old child about this laptop. Freedom to tinker has given an OLPC to a 12-year-old child called SG to write a review about it. Our child “SG” knows about HTML and mother boards and stuff, and just uses the computer for essays, surfing the web, etc.

He found OLPC very attractive for children. He examined OLPC for typing documents, taking pictures with the camera, going on the web, playing the matching game, recording voice on the music-making application, laptop-to-laptop messaging system.

According to his test, He loves the speed of internet and browsing (it was the fastest part of this laptop) and the cleverly design. According to his opinion, OLPC is easy to understand how to use it. It is full of entertaining and easy games and a camera.

It is a sufficient laptop for job.

Additionally, for harsh conditions, OLPC is perfect:
High resolution swivel display;
A button that changes the brightness of the screen;
Two antennas in plastic;
Very nice handle arranges easy transportation;
The keyboard uses green rubber satisfied effortless squishy keys that are proof against dust and water;

But he was annoyed from some problems too.

According to his opinion:

- It is very slow when you run an application. It takes about 2 minutes to enter an application

- You have to reboot it all the time.

- It gives no warning when it is out of power and unfortunately, it loses charge very quickly. When the power finishes, it just shuts off and you lose whole thing.

I am quoting some lines from Freedom to tinker:

The space is a little limited, but the actual thing was great. It doesn’t have one of those impossible-to-read fonts but it was still nice. When the so-so connection allows you to get on, the internet is one of the best features of the whole computer. With a clever and space-saving toolbar, it is compact, well designed, accessible, and fast.

This laptop is definitely designed for harsh conditions. Covered in a green and white hard plastic casing, it is designed not to break if dropped. It has a very nice handle for easy transportation and two antennas in plastic that can be easily put up.

All in all, this laptop is great for its price, its job, and its value. It is almost perfect. Just speed it up, give it a little more battery charge hold, and you have yourself the perfect laptop. I’m sure kids around the world will really love, enjoy, and cherish these laptops. They will be so useful. This program is truly amazing.

I think this review can help so much to get better idea about this amazing laptop. I am happy for the children round the world who get OLPC.

Intel Revises Current CPU Naming System to unify Naming scheme

Intel has introduced many sorts of CPUs in short time with different names that have created confusion for consumers. For example, while consumers where getting used to Core Due processors, immediately Core 2 Due processors became common or while users were trying to learn about Core 2 Due processors, Core 2 Extreme, and Quad core processors became hot.

For this problem, Intel is going to revise its current product naming system on January 1, 2008 and simplify things for consumers.

For example, Intel will rename Viiv Processor Technology and Intel vPro Processor Technology as Intel Core 2 Duo Processor with Viiv (or vPro) respectively. Or Intel is going to name all Core 2 Quad, Core 2 Duo, and Core 2 Solo only to Core 2 Processor.

I am quoting some lines from ars technica website:

The Pentium D and Pentium Dual-Core will henceforth be known simply as the Pentium, while the Itanium 2 becomes the Itanium. The Core 2 Extreme, Celeron, and Xeon brands will be unchanged. Although compressing the large number of Core 2 XXXX parts into a single Core 2 Processor category will obviously simplify the "front" of the processor name, it's not at all clear how Intel will differentiate between Core 2 processors in order to present their various speeds, number of cores, and cache sizes.

Hopefully the "back" of Intel's naming scheme—specifically, that part of the name which specifies product speed, number of cores, and family—can be simplified without leading to even more confusion. With Penryn on the horizon, there's an even greater risk of confusion as customers try to sort out the various part numbers, product families, and core features. Unfortunately, Intel's track record at this sort of thing isn't exactly the best.

Company representative David Dickstein believes that this style will bring less complex and sustainable brand roadmap. But some times simplifying creates more confusion!

I hope Intel’s unification product naming scheme program brings really help to consumers to recognize different CPUs easier and faster. What do you think? Do you agree with Intel’s plan or the style it is going to follow? Please, share your opinions with us in comment section.

World’s First 1.2TB Laptop Hard Drives by Fujitsu Coming in 2010

Fujitsu is introducing its breath-taking a two-platter 2.5-inch Hard drives with storage capacities of 1.2 TB (Tera Byte) in 2010.

Fujitsu is satisfied that it could perform basic read/write capability of each individual nanohole of the patterned media using a typical flying head on a rotating disk.

Computer world explains that “The patterned alumina nanohole media was created via a Perpendicular Magnetic Recording (PMR) processes using nano-imprint lithography (enabling discrete distance from bit to bit or track to track), anodic oxidation and cobalt electrodeposition at a density of 100-nanometer-pitch nanoholes suitable to existing head technology.”

Currently, Fujitsu has the largest storage of 300 GB in the market.

Forget Old Mac Keyboards, New iMac Keyboards Coming

One of the Readers of Gizmodo has discovered that Apple and Best Buy stores are not getting Old Mac Keyboards anymore. He has found out that old Apple keyboard are not receiving at Apple Stores in Oakbrook and Michigan. Instead, they are still receiving iMacs.

So, Gizmodo gets this idea that Apple is going to stop shipment of Old Mac Keyboards and start selling new iMacs and new Mac minis.

I am quoting some line:

The reader is claiming he discovered this while inquiring at the Apple Stores in Oakbrook and Michigan, He points out that they are still receiving iMacs, however. Likewise, the same reader reports that Best Buy is not receiving any old keyboards either.

Since we doubt Apple will be releasing just new keyboards this week, our money is in new iMacs and new Mac minis.

What do you think? Have you got new information about this matter? If yes, please share it with us in the comment section. I will be happy to give a link to your blog or website in written.

Alienware Offers 48 Hours Quick Ship for Area-51 m5550 Gaming Laptop

Alienware after adding the option of SSD to Area-51 m5550, is offering quick ship for consumers who order this laptop. Alienware has no problem to ship your chosen Area-51 m5550 Laptop within 48 hours immediately. Well. Maybe the secret of this speed is that you can’t configure or customize the laptop and you have to choose only the configuration Alienware offers.

As you know nowadays Dell has problem to ship XPS m1330 at the exact time. And I think this is the only problem. XPS m1330 is very customizable. And naturally consumers will not order similar configurations. This variety has caused delay. But Alienware is smart. The configuration incorporates a T7200 Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, and an 8x dual layer CD-RW/DVD±RW burner, a 15.4-inch display, and ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 graphics.

It is pricing at $1,699.

You can read whole specification and review about this laptop ( all good sides and bad sides) here.

iMac Multi-Touch Screen in Video

In my previous entry I explained that Apple is going to use this multi touch screen facility in its MacBook.

iPhone is very attractive because of its multi-touch screen. You can use multiple fingers and you don’t need any stylus. Now, apple is going to use iPhone’s multi-touch technology for laptop’s touchpad.

Already, you can scroll pages with touchpad but if you can do everything on the files and applications with your fingers like browsing through your iTunes or zooming in on photos!

In the following you can see a small video when an iMac get Multi-Touch screen.

Dell Omits Peal White Color of XPS m1330 For Long Delay of Shipment

Poor Dell, Poor Consumers. Consumers have started to complain more about the delay of getting their order. And Dell Tries to explain with more details what is happening and make its consumers some calm. Yesterday, Dell explained in its blog “direct2dell” what is going on about attractive Dell XPS m1330. Well if you read the comments bellow the post, you will touch that most consumers who wrote comments feel frustration or feel relief that at last they got a clear explanation.

Dell has explained that two factors mainly postpone the process, one is LED and the second one is color. Dell says that “painting these lids are much more difficult than anticipated and that only Tuxedo Black units are coming off the line with acceptable results. As a result of these difficulties, the company is discontinuing Pearl White as an available choice.”

Don’t worry the consumers who ordered pearl white earlier will get their laptop with this color.

Also Dell explains that:

First off, it's new technology, and that means there are fewer suppliers available. Bright white LEDs provide the backlight for the LCD instead of a fluorescent tube. It results in a brighter display that offers better color reproduction, is thinner and lighter, and draws less power. This relatively limited supply base combined with stronger than anticipated demand-the number of orders has simply exceeded our expectations-has contributed to the delays.

In the end Dell doesn’t give any time frame and just says that they are trying to ship these ordered systems as quickly as possible.

Medison Celebrity Laptop: Virtual or Real?

Having a laptop with every basic facility like adequate processor, Memory and Sotrage, and enough graphics and even built-in webcam for doing typical internet work for price of $150! Is the best offer you can imagine. Even an adequate desktop PC is not in this price! So, DO you think Medison Celebrity is a true offer from Medison Company?

Well, it seems this offer is true but after press release that got cover with many weblogs and websites, this offer looks to be suspicious now.

Engadget, one of the top blogs in technology has written “That $150 Medison Celebrity we glanced a few days back seemed to smell a bit fishy from the get-go, and a recent press release from the firm does a fairly terrible job of assuring us all otherwise.”

According to engadget, the company is insisting that its offer is true but the problem is that after a while it has said that if you didn’t get the offer after three months the company would give you back your money. For this matter rumors has started that may company is going to enjoy the interest of your money and you, poor consumers after losing your money for a while you will get back after three months.

I am so eager to hear about the first person who will get his Medison Celebrity laptop.

Please if you get this laptop share it with us.

Eurocom D900C Phantom-X: 17" Gaming Laptop with Intel Quad Core

After the Australian gaming laptop DreamBook Power D90 SLI (with basic price of 3,912 U.S) that is going to be in market with Intel quad Core processor for hard core gamers, the Canadian Eurocom D900C Phantom-X ( with basic price of $2,812 U.S) is going to compete, as it comes with similar components too.

Eurocom D900C Phantom-X has got a big list of impressive outstanding features include:

- It is powered by Intel quad-core Q6600 (2.4 GHz) or Q6700 (2.66 GHz) processor with 1066MB FSB and 8MB L2 cache. Also, there are options of Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 (2.93GHz) with 4MB L2 cache and 1066FSB and three options of Intel Core 2 Due desktop processor E400 and E6600and E6700 with 1066 FSB

- it can come with main memory featuring 800MHz front side bus, which is faster than current 667MHz FSB modules used in Intel “Santa Rosa” platform. RAM can be maximum 4GB but from 3GB, it can only be possible under a 64-bit operating system. The basic memory is 2GB.

- It can afford huge storage of up to three SATA2 hard drives at 5400rpm, for a total of up to 750GB of HDD. The system supports RAID 0 (for maximum performance), RAID 1 (for maximum data protection), and RAID 5 (it is necessary for physical hard drives) HDD modes.

- There will be the option of Blu-Ray drive soon but now there are only the options of DVD burner and Combo optical drive available.

- Superb 17.1-inch WUXGA LCD display with 1920-by-1200 pixels resolution
- It is very customizable when it comes to graphics card. The single or dual mode (SLI mode) can be for:
Nvidia GeForce Go 7950GTX 512MB dedicated video cards / or GeForce 8700GTX or Nvidia Quadro FX3500 graphics.

-High Definition TV Support: HD Audio interface; HDTV S-Video 7-wire output with optional TV tuner; DVI Dual Link port with HDCP support
- There are good options of SuperG 108Mbps or 802.11agn and Bluetooth for wireless network connectivity

- A built-in web camera and optional TV tuner
- Good security: Integrated TPM Module for data security and encryption
- Internal 7-in-1 Card Reader; MS/MS Pro/MS Duo/MS Pro Duo/SD/Mini-SD/MMC
-Operating Systems: 32-bitWindows XP Pro or VISTA 64-bit

Wowww!! It is really a super professional laptop for hard-core gamers. If you look at the features of DreamBook Power D90 SLI, you will find these two laptops are so similar. But I have to vote Eurocom D900C Phantom-X as has higher clocking quad-core processor as option and more options for graphics card. Also, there is some difference for hard drive too. The Australian laptop can get one flash drive for in hybrid mode and other two hard drives standard. This option that this DreamBook Power laptop offers is so good for people who want faster booting up and performance. In other features these two gaming laptops are almost the same.

The system weighs about 11.9lbs and with 12-cell battery provides up to 1.5 hours of continuous operation between charges.

There is no information about the audio system.

In the following, you can see one sort of specification of Eurocom D900C Phantom-X that I have chosen:

Processor: Intel Core 2 quad Q6600 (2.40GHz) FSB 1066, 8MB L2;
Memory: 2GB DDR2-667 RAM
Hard Drive: 3X 250GB (5400 rpm) SATA HDD
Optical Drive: DVD multi drive burner

Display: Superb 17.1" WUXGA LCD display with 1920-by-1200 pixels resolution
Graphics: SLI2 VGA cards; 1GB GDDR3; Nvidia GeForce Go 7950GTX

Network: Intel Wireless Wi-Fi 4965AGN; Bluetooth; Ethernet; modem
Ports/Slots: four USB ports, a Firewire; HDTV S-Video 7-wire output, a DVI Dual Link port with HDCP, and a HD audio; an ExpressCard slot; Internal 7-in-1 Card Reader; modem port, Ethernet port

Security:Integrated TPM Module
OS: 64-bit Vista ultimate
Battery: 12-cells Smart Li-Ion battery
Warranty: 1 year
Weight: 11.9 lbs
Others: TV tuner hybrid; WorldWide; with remote; built-in web camera; D900 Carry Case; up to 17-inch; Ballastic Nylon; Black

This laptop with Quad core processor and other excellent facilities is very expensive. The configuration I made above costs $6,177 CAD or $5,850 U.S.

You can order the laptop in the website right now.

Enjoy the laptop!
