Asus to Show off Second Generation of Eee PC with WiMAX at CES 2008

I think in 2008 will have more tech-buzz than 2007. Since one week before the new year, the new news items about Laptops based on Santa Rosa Refresh platform using Penrym processors have started to come.

Today, Asus released news as a Christmas gift to its Eee PC fans. Asus with Intel and Sprint jointly will take place a press conference at CES 2008 to show off the second generation of Asus EeePC having WiMAX technology.

If you want to intend to this press conference you can fill the form here.

Notebook Italia reports:

This will be an outstanding event, perhaps intended to suggest what could be fil rouge of CES 2008 in Mobile, WiMAX, as well as technology SideShow it was the CES 2007. Just take a look at the names of speakers for confirmation of this insight: Jonney Shih, CEO of ASUSTeK, and Sean Maloney, executive vice president, general manager Sales and Marketing Group at Intel.

But the highlight of the presentation will be performed when you preview the first prototype portable devices equipped with WiMAX, among whom there will also be "the next generation of EeePC!" It Asus itself provide this information in stringato communicated with which calls to register the event:
"Join ASUS, Intel and Sprint to learn about the state of WiMAX technology, preview next mobile solutions (including the next generation EeePC) and immerse yourself in tomorrow's wireless protocol."

Of course this is really good news and I am one of the fans of Eee PC mini laptop and I ‘d like that Asus make this laptop more practical by adding new peripherals and better features like 10" display with touch screen technology, better network features like 3G option and so on.

But the important Question is Will Next-Gen Asus Eee PC be a low-cost laptop like the first generation Eee PC Laptops?

And how much will Asus try to be faithful to its main goal of making Eee PC?

Speculations on Apple’s New Products: a Multi-Touch Screen UMPC for 2008?

What sorts of laptops would you like Apple to introduce in the New Year? Tablet PC, Ultra portable Laptop, or UMPC? One blogger “Sebastian Schmieg” after 6 month researching has got this idea that Apple will release a UMPC in 2008. His speculation is that this UMPC will have a display between 3.5" iPod up to 7"-10" Tablet PC. Actually he guesses that the screen must be 5.2" because Apple has shown immense interest to 5.2″ 800 x 480 pixel touch screen design by Balda, a German company.

Additionally, it will just have some buttons but there will be no Keyboard. Instead this UMPC will use multi-touch screen technology. Also, I will use flash memory as a hard disk.

Well this is the skill of Steve Jobs to keep up with rumors to maintain excitements and curiosities in its fans.

You can see in the following picture the speculation of this blogger.

What do you think? Do you agree with him? Would you like to correct its guesswork?

Please share us your opinions in the comment section.

Christmas Holiday Gift: Updates for HP Pavilion Laptop Models

This is Christmas time and the top tech companies in USA and Canada are busy to serve their customers. This is a very busy time for shopping in the US. In the recent years, there is a lot of enthusiasm about laptops. Many people are now eager to buy laptops and laptops are no longer luxury items. So, I am not shocked to see that HP has presented upgrades of a number of laptop models.

The updated models are full of excellent features. There is Blu-ray option, there is Bluetooth option, and there is more Video RAM, refreshing designs and so many things for the consumers.

As HP Pavilions are very popular laptops because of their good features and affordable prices, HP has updates its entire Pavilion lines up for this Holiday. So, you can buy an updated Pavilion laptop from following notebook series:

14.1" laptop series include: Pavilion dv2700t, dv2700tbw, and dv2700tse

15.4" laptop Series include: Pavilion dv6700z, dv6700t, and dv6700tse

17" laptop series include: Pavilion dv9700t and dv9700z

Notebook Review wrote:

The basic hardware remains the same with a range dual core Intel and AMD processors to choose from and up to 4GB of system RAM. The major feature updates include:

New Dedicated Graphics Options

128MB nVidia 8400M GS for dv2700t, dv2700tbw, and dv2700tse (upgraded from 64MB)

256MB nVidia 8400M GS for dv6700z, dv6700t, and dv6700tse (upgraded from 128MB)

Latitude XT is Pricy because of Bringing the New Standard for Tablet Computing

Dell has got many comments to put question about the high starting price of Latitude XT and it has tried to explain it in its blog. Dell Blieves that its new Tablet PC has brought the new standard for tablet computing.

Dell explains that there were 6 factors which raised the starting price of Latitude XT tablet PC include Touch (that has Pen and Capacitive Touch), brightness (for 220 nits up to 400 nits with DLV option), graphics (ATI X1250), thickness ( 1.0 inch), Weight (3.57 lbs) and Input (Dual-input). Dell has compared them with its two rivals HP 2710p tablet and ThinkPad X61t in the following table:

But Dell has not explained the issue of CPU speed options. I think thickness or weight are so important but not as vital as CPU speed and hard drive speed and enough storage. One of the important expectations or questions of users is about this matter. If a person pays $3,134 for buying a Tablet, he/she expects to have the CPU faster than Intel Core 2 Duo ULV U7600 (1.20GHz, 533Mhz) or more Memory size than 1GB or bigger storage with standard speed spinning of 5400 than 80GB Hard Drive, 4200RPM.

I think If Dell had kept the same thickness and weight (or even some more than) HP 2710p tablet and ThinkPad X61t but instead it had worked on performance factor better than its rivals; it could bring more satisfaction for its users.

What do you think? DO you agree with me? Do you have new questions? Or do you have some suggestions? Please, share them with us in the comment section.

Internet Security, Leopard, iPhone, Facebook &Vista Biggest Tech Disappointments of 2007

PC world has published an article and has collected 15 Biggest Tech Disappointments of 2007. In this collection you can find many important or hot products such as two hot and important Operating systems Leopard &Vista or much-talked mobile phone iPhone, or Facebook that has got the title of “Anti-Social Network”. It is interesting that these tech gizmos and software tools made most news and rumors last year but they have made PC world experts disappointed.

The #1 disappointed product is Windows Vista! Well, PC World has tried to be just; it has talked about all the good sides and bad sides of Vista. For example, it appreciates integrated security and parental controls the Aero interface and Searching and wireless networking of Vista. But the bad part is that became so pricy for users ($399 ($299 upgrade) for Windows Ultimate) and the worst part is “Vista is slower than XP”.

The #3 disappointed product is FaceBook! It has got the disgraced title of The Anti-Social Network by PC world. Why? The answer is it believes that FaceBook has stolen the social networking spotlight from MySpace this year. Nonetheless, it has praised the opening up the Facebook platform to third-party developers.

The #5 disappointed product is iPhone! It has described it in very short way: the Great, the Bad, and the Ugly.

Cons: a tiny touch keyboard; lack of Flash support; AT&T's broadband service is second rate; and the sudden change of the price of iPhone from $600 to $300 is the biggest of disaster of 2007.

Pros: very pretty

The #8 disappointed product is Leopard OS 10.5! The second hot OS in 2007 created dozens of problems for the users within short time after releasing such as “Wireless connections that slowly petered away” or “d came with its firewall turned off, leaving users vulnerable to attack”. However, Apple Released the update of Leopard that fixed some of the bugs.

The #12 disappointed product is Internet Security!

Three-quarters of cyber attacks in 2007 originated outside the U.S., according to Symantec and for this large number of Web espionage, cyber assaults, zombies and storm worm everybody from developers of insecure software to home users who blithely log on without inoculating their PCs are responsible.

Other disappointed products in this list include:

#15: Amazon Unbox

#14: Municipal WiMax

#13: Social Networks

#11: Microsoft Zune

#10: Wireless Carriers

#9: Office 2007

#7: Voice Over IP

#6: The Broadband Industry

#4: Yahoo

#2: The High-Def Foramt War (between Blu-ray and HD DVD)

What do you think? DO you agree with PC World’s list? Do you agree with the order it has arranged? OR for example you think Leopard must be #1 disappointed product and So on. If you think there are some Products that PC world has not mentioned them you can suggest them in the comment section.

Cnet Bloger: Apple Subnotebook Will Be the Biggest Mistake!

Many Apple fans are eagerly waiting to see Apple’s new productions like Apple sub-notebook or 3G iPhone or Mac Pro with Penryn at Macworld in January 2008. Among these productions, most rumors were made around Apple’s subnotebook. But it is natural that they are some people don’t like sub notebooks and they are not so happy with this Apple’s production.

No doubt that subnotbooks have many limitations like small screens between 7" to 10", lack of many of the ports you expect to get from a laptop, most of the time lack of built-in optical drive, less power and performance and so on. So, these factors make the market of this sort of laptop smaller and just particular consumers need to purchase it.

Don Reisinger, a technology columnist that is a member of the CNET Blog Network, believes that Apple’s subnotebook can not be as successful as other laptops like Macs or Mac Pros. Even he thinks that subnotebook with such that features (12-inch screen, NAND flash memory and 50 percent thinner than the MacBook Pro) will be expensive if Apple sells it for $1500.

I am quoting some lines from his post in his blog:

Now, I understand that subnotebooks offer more benefits than solely screen size, but by and large, people buy these products for their size and cost. In essence, a subnotebook is a neat little device to carry around and perform relatively simple tasks on. Does that sound like a Mac to you?
If we've learned anything from Apple over the past few years, we now know that Steve Jobs knows how to deliver the right products at the right time. But if he stands on stage at Macworld and shows the press a subnotebook, you can bet it'll be one of the biggest mistakes the company has ever made.

It shows that he mentions a very important question for Steve Jobs that "why would a customer buy this thing?” and expects that to get an appropriate answer from him at MacWorld Show.

- A SD card (you'll need this, 2GB minimum, the bigger the better
- A Vista DVD

Asus Eee PC Keeps warranty After Breaking Seals

Asus has noticed that many users would like to upgrade some parts of their Eee PC mini laptops like RAM, or increasing the storage, or adding internal USB Bluetooth & HSDPA. Asus is trying to assist its users in the best way.

has given this freedom to its users and has stated that its users can use warranty even after breaking seals. However, it recommends to users to use its approved service facilities rather than breaking seals themselves.

Well Asus is really acting smartly. This way the laptop can become like open source tools. Means that users have the same freedom to improve their Eee PC laptops the way they like. Well, This freedom has some limitation too, Don’t this that if you damage your eee pc by channing or upgrading the hardware, Asus will solve it under warranty facility.

There are some tersm that you need to know.

I am quoting these terms from press release:

ASUS will honor all other terms of its Limited Warranty and that it will not refuse warranty service simply because a customer has either broken a warranty seal, installed non-ASUS components or software, or because the customer’s unit has been opened or serviced by a non-ASUS-approved service facility or by the user.

ASUS customers are reminded that ASUS computer systems, like all other computer systems, contain delicate and complex components that may be easily damaged if not handled correctly. Also, ASUS systems are tested and certified for compatibility and performance to product specifications based on their original configurations using ASUS-approved hardware, components, and approved, factory-installed software.

As with all computer systems, some added hardware, components and software may not be compatible with the product. Also, as with all computers, attempts by persons who lack sufficient knowledge or who are not properly trained to upgrade, repair, or maintain the product’s internal components or hardware configuration, or the installation and use of non-approved or untested hardware components or accessories, may result in damage to the product or severe degradation of the product’s performance and functionality that may not be covered under the ASUS Limited Warranty. Also, as with all computer software, attempts to change, alter, or modify the factory-installed software may result in damage to the product or a severe degradation in the product’s performance or functionality that may not be covered under the ASUS Limited Warranty.

Normally users don’t get this facility from laptop makers.

I think that this facility will even make Asus eee PC more popular than past.

The Pricey Latitude XT Tablet Has Special Display; In future Will Be Multi-Touch

Dell immediately has answered some of the questions of its readers about Dell Latitude XT Tablet which was launched just yesterday. Dell has explained that they tried to know what were the current problems of consumers with current table PCs. Also, what they liked about their systems. So, they tried all of them on their first tablet PC to make it very special.

ON of the most particular feature that this tablet pc was supposed to have was having Multi-Touch screen. But in the official launch of this Tablet we didn’t find this feature. So,

Engadget asked this question and got good answer:

yes, XT buyers now (and in the future) will all have laptops capable of multi-touch input, thanks to that capacitive touchscreen, but the software and/or drivers needed to enable it won't be released "until a later date."

So, we are hopeful that son we will see this laptop with this new technology, Maybe earlier than a MacBook with multi-touch.

Dell has mentioned 4 advantages of Dell Latitude XT which makes this laptop more special that existing tablet PCs like ThinkPad X61 and Fujitsu LifeBook T2010.

For instance, Users believed that existing Tablet PCs were just too clumsy, heavy and chunky. Or one of the important applications of tablet PCs is using them outdoor. Many consumers think that their tablet PCs don’t have enough brightness or they are not enough brightly-lit environments. The third important factor for users about tablet PCs the battery life that the standard battery should be at least more than 3 ½ hours.

Dell has tried to solve these problems and introduce a new tablet PC which delivers better results for all these expectations.

I am quoting the Dell’s explanation for these three questions:

- We've worked to address this by creating one of the lightest and thinnest 12.1" convertible tablets on the market at about 1" thick and 3.6 pounds. I'm glad to see that some reviewers like Andrew Baxter at Tablet PC Review said it was the smallest power adapter he's seen on any notebook or Tablet PC. (For the first problem)

- We designed an optional daylight viewing panel that is the brightest in its category-at 400 nits, it's almost 2X the competition. Now, this option does add a little more thickness and a little more weight. So, for mainstream users more concerned about size and weight, we still recommend the backlit LED panel at 220 nits. (For the second problem)

- We answered this with a standard six-cell battery that offers about 4 ½ hours of continuous battery life and an optional battery slice that snaps snugly on the underside for up to 9 hours of "all day computing.

Even Dell explains that they have tried to keep the laptop cool by adding a small gap (1mm or so) between the battery slice and the bottom of the tablet. Dell believes that this small gap will be adequate for air to flow and helps the system to stay cool.

Additionally, Users wanted to know about the accuracy of the display of Latitude XT tablet because it has used "resistive" touch technology like existing tablet PCs.

The big problem with resistive touch technology is it is not durable and not so accurate.

Dell has solved this problem by using “Capacitive” touch technology. Opposite of “resistive" touch technology uses don’t need to move their finger on the screen with pressure. Only by touching the screen they can manage accurately and get more durability.

Well, I think these four advantages show why Dell has made this laptop expensive

You Can Install Windows Vista SP1 RC (Release Candidate) through Windows Update

From today, you can install Vista SP1 release candidate which is one step better than Beta version (SP1). As you can get it through Windows Update if you have already installed Vista SP1 by using the standalone package, you have to uninstall it first. This SP1 RC is compatible with all the systems running on one of the 36 languages supported by Vista RTM.

Well, you have two follow 4 steps to get SP1 RC. I don’t know how much time it will take but you will have to install as many as three updates before SP1 can be installed if your system runs on Windows Vista RTM.

If you run on one of Windows Vista Business 64-bit edition; Windows Vista Enterprise 64-bit edition; Windows Vista Home Basic 64-bit edition; Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit edition; and Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit edition, you can download Vista SP1 RC.

Dell Latitude XT Tablet PC In Review, Pictures, Comparisons, & Prices

Dell has officially announced its first Tablet PC, Latitude XT at the exact time it had promised. This business laptop is very pricy and only targets corporate sectors and education and health care sectors. The basic price starts from $2499 (it is more pricy than many current tablets in the market such as ThinkPad X61 but comparable to each other). If you are interested to order or buy this Tablet PC, you have to wait until end of December when Dell starts shipping the product.

You can see some good pictures in Tablet pc2 website, and some other pictures in engadget.

Dell E-Series: Laptops for Any Sort of Consumer to Do Everything, To Go Everywhere

Review:

This laptop has a ThinkPad-esque decoration and is very sturdy.

Although, this tablet PC is light (only 3.57lbs), it is heaver than ThinkPad X61 (starts at 1.24 kg (2.73 lb)).

(Bad sides): Unfortunately, it only has one speaker, hinge is unidirectional and also opposite of earlier reports and videos and teasers, this laptop comes with a single-touch display only and doesn’t use Multi-Touch technology. Maybe the reason is that the company is being sued for alleged patent infringement of touch-screen technology. But surely Dell will try to add Multi-Touch technology to this tablet PC

Additionally, it doesn't have integrated optical drive like its rivals, IBM Lenovo

ThinkPad X61 and Fujitsu LifeBook T2010.

Other highlight features (Good sides) of Dell Latitude XT Tablet are:

- It is design with magnesium alloy chassis with a brushed aluminum effect on the lid and palm rests. The frame and chassis looks sturdier and higher quality build than most other Dell laptops.
- The hinge is solid and well-made
- There are options of 32 or 64GB Solid State Disk (SSD) drives
- There is wireless on/off switch
- It has SD slot
- It is both laptop and digitized slate
- There is the option of LED screen at 220 nits for better display and lighter weight and a thinner form
- There is the CCFL screen option for users who need brighter (400nits) screen which can be more suitable for outdoor viewing

- The Display uses capacitive touch technololgy. This increases the accuracy because finger can manage things on the monitor only by touching not entering any pressure. Dell Itself explains this matter in its blog: "Many customers using resistive tablets that support both pen and touch actually wind up turning this feature off because the palm rejection technology is so cumbersome. On this front, I think we're making our biggest impact. The Latitude XT is the first sub-four pound convertible with both pen and "capacitive" touch technology. Capacitive technology senses the touch of a finger with no pressure leading to better accuracy, response times, screen durability, and ultimately, a better user experience. As an example, as far as accuracy and speed, our third-party tests confirmed this against the Lenovo X61T. Also, the digitizer is rated up to 10 times more durable than competitors resistive touch digitizer technology."

- It has got Integrated ATI Radeon X1250 UMA Graphics (but ThinkPad X61 uses integrated GMA X3100)

- Availability of HSDPA or EVDO rev A., 802.11a/b/g/n options, and Bluetooth 2.0, (like X61 tablet)
- Full size keyboard and Dual-pointing; rubber domes with leveling rods; Scroll Wheel with enter and back functionality (on display / slate)

-This tablet PC has got the smallest power adapter

- You can choose Windows XP Tablet Edition 2005 or Vista Business or Vista Ultimate OS
-Up to 4 1/2 hours battery life with standard 43WH pack,up to 9 hours of battery life with extended 45WH pack

About the Benchmark scores of this laptop later I will report in this blog. So, keep in touch.

Well, the price of this laptop is so high. Likewise it has got many features that ThinkPad X61 and Fujitsu LifeBook T2010 have got. I checked the current price of these two laptops at some online stores and it is the result:

- Fujitsu LifeBook T2010 (1.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo U7500 Laptop, Windows XP Tablet PC Edition, 60 GB Hard Drive, 1.0 GB DDR2 SDRAM, No Optical, 12.1 in. WXGA Monitor indoor active digitizer display with wide viewing angles, Card Reader, Modem, Gigabit NIC, WLAN 802.11a/b/g/n, Bluetooth, 3.52 lbs) is priced $1,599 at MacMall and $1,469 at onSale.

- ThinkPad X61 (Intel Core 2 Duo L7500 Tablet PC, RAM: 2 GB, HDD: 120 GB, 12.1" TFT 1400 x 1050 SXGA, Intel GMA X3100, Bluetooth, Modem, Intel 802.11abg, 1Gb Ethernet, Fingerprint reader, 6.5hr battery and Vista Business) is priced $1,999.00 at Amazon and $2,199.00 at MacMall.

It is clear that you have good options with cheaper price right now.

If I compare Latitude XT with Fujitsu LifeBook T2010:

The Dell’s Tablet is thinner but heavier, more expensive, can come with equal or less power than the Fujitsu’s tablet, has several of OS, and wireless connectivity options specially, draft-n and WWAN which the Fujitsu’s tablet doesn’t have, LED display option and with brighter LCD display, better graphics and 1 USB more, Express Card slot (not PC card), and only SD slot.

The Fujitsu’s tablet is cheaper, 1 shared slot for Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO, or Secure Digital (SD) card and longer battery life (up to 11 hours with SSD).

Although Latitude XT is sturdy and rugged but The Fujitsu’s tablet has Spill-resistant keyboard 10 with Quick Point. Also, it has Bi-directional hinge opposite of the Dell tablet that has unidirectional hinge.

Yet there is no information about the security part of Latitude XT tablet, However Fujitsu LifeBook T2010 is well-secured and has got different tools such as Anti-theft Lock Slot, Dedicated Smartcard 5 slot, Fingerprint Sensor, Trusted Platform Module.

In the end, the Fujitsu’s tablet can have up to 4GB of RAM but the Dell’s Tablet can provide up to 3 GB of RAM.

If I compare Latitude XT with Lenovo ThinkPad X61:

I have already compared some these two tablet PCs. The Dell’s Tablet is thinner but heavier, more expensive, can come with equal or less power than ThinkPad X61, and has several of OS, better graphics card and display, more HDD options and availability of SDD options.

Both of them have SD slot, variety of Wireless LAN and WWAN, and the same amount of Ports.

ThinkPad X61 has got PC card not Express card like the Dell’s tablet and modem. Also it is much secured and RAM can be updated up to 4GB.

3D Super Processors: 10 Times Faster Than Today’s Latest CPUs Coming in 2 Years

Nowadays when Intel talks about its latest CPUs such as upcoming Intel 45nm Core 2 Due T9500 with speed clocking of 2.6GHz and 6MB L2 Cache or 45nm Intel Core 2 Extreme X9000 (2.8Ghz, L2 Cache: 6MB), we get amazed with the speed of these CPUs. Now imagine soon, within 2 years the new processors may come with 10 times faster speed than these CPUs! You will just feel dizzy that your personal computer looks like a super computer!

I have not become crazy! The Father of flash memory ( or inventor of flash memory), “Fujio Masuoka, CTO of Unisantis Electronics in Japan” has claimed that within two year he will be able to make three-dimensional semiconductors (3D) which can run ten times faster than our today’s latest CPUs.

The current processors are made of flat chip circuits. Masuoka has said that he is trying to make 3D semiconductors with same size of chips of the current processors.

AMD Explains: Errata make Delay on Barcelona; Coming in Q1 2008

AMD was supposed to launch Barcelona in early September 2007 but after two months AMD has sent a letter to Dailytech to explain the reasons of postponing releasing Barcelona Platform.

AMD has explained that before launching the processor they found some errata in their current quad-core processors. One major erratum was in the Translation Lookaside Buffer (TLB) part in Barcelona and Phenom platforms. Also, AMD could fix one problem in BIOS but the fix partially disables the faulty TLB and also decreases the performance significantly. For instance, the Firefox benchmark scored over 57% decrease in performance.

I am quoting some lines from this letter:

CPU bugs are a extremely common. No system as complex as a CPU is without them. In fact, both AMD and Intel have literally 100s of CPU bugs. The thing which makes this particular errata damaging to AMD is that the fix significantly undercuts performance; by up to 20% on average, and nearly 60% on at least one benchmark. With AMD's current clock speed limitations, decreases in performance only further amplify their

AMD has plans to fix their quad-core Opterons in hardware in the Q1'08 timeframe, so the BIOS workaround will no longer be required. Originally, AMD was reporting that only the 2.4 GHz part had the errata. However, we're learning now that all Barcelonas have it. Until The Q1'08 timeframe, they will delay or cancel shipments of Barcelona products to all but select commercial customers, and regular end-users.

Despite these bugs, specific users who can improve the performance problem or leverage the BIOS fix or some other potential software workarounds. So, if you are among one of these groups you can get a PC with the Barcelona platform.

OLPC to Get Windows XP OS in Mid-2008?

When OLPC laptop was launched Microsoft didn’t show any interest. When Asus Eee PC was on the way coming to public Microsoft was not interested either. But after launching Microsoft is trying so hard to be the optional OS or maybe ( who knows) later the only OS of these two budget laptops!

Utzschneider the GM of Marketing and Communications of Microsoft’s Unlimited Potential Group has explained in its blog that Microsoft programmers are trying so hard to make a stripped-down version of Windows XP which will fit to OLPC laptops.

Well, From Utzschneider’s words I assume that Microsoft will not be able release this version soon but he has claimed that this version will be ready till Mid-2008.

I am quoting some lines from Utzschneider’s blog:

For starters, we are hard at work on the project here, and we are using an approach that is a little unusual for Microsoft in that we are managing the entire process of adapting and testing an existing version of Windows for a new PC. Usually the hardware vendor does this. And the Windows port to the XO is by no means done. Between Microsoft employees and third party contractors that we have brought into the effort, we have over 40 engineers working full-time on the port. We started the project around the beginning of the year and think it will be mid-2008 at the earliest before we could have a production-quality release.

Because of this, we have not announced formal plans to support the XO yet, and we will not do so until after we start getting feedback from our first limited field trials starting in January before we make the final call.

This movement of Miscrosft shows that these two projects were successful, don’t you think so? I just hope that the price of OLPC doesn’t increase when it gets Windows XP OS as already the price has reached over $200 and it is not a $100 laptop anmore.

3.8 Million Asus Eee PCs with Linux and Windows XP to Come in 2008

Asus Eee PC has got more success after releasing. The most important success of this laptop is that now Intel and Microsoft are so eager to collaborate on this project more than past. First, Asus used the Linux OS to make this laptop as cheap and affordable as possible. And after launching the eee pc, Microsoft showed its interest.

Also, Intel had worked on a budget laptop “Classmate PC” but it could not become as successful as AMD-based OLPC. So, Intel happily joint to Asus and Eee PC laptop got Intel processor.

Some of the Eee PCs of next year will have the basic version of Windows XP (not the full version) however; some of the existing Eee PCs have got pre-installed Windows XP unofficially. This Eee PC with XP pre-installed will raise the price between $30 and $60 over the base cost of the laptop.

DailyTech reports:

ASUS is not shy with its ambitions for Eee PC in 2008. In a memo circulated to Eee PC team members at ASUS Headquarters, project leaders boldly declared the company plans to ship 3.8 million Eees for its next fiscal year. By contrast, the OLPC project has committed to 425,000 notebooks for all of 2007.

Asus has not exposed the sales numbers of Eee PCs for 2007 but I think they will be able to reach their target in 2008 - 3.8 million Eee PCs with targeting emerging markets.

What do you think? Will Eee PC stay so popular even next year or Asus will have to do some changes and keep Eee PC hot in the market?

We would like to know your idea. Please share it in the comment section.
