Mini-Note, Eee PC, and 2go PC keyboards Under Test; Which Is Winner?

Everyone knows that as much as Eee PC Classmate PC 2 or other low-cost laptops are light, small portable and easy to carry but they come with cramp keyboards that are mainly good for small-size hands. Therefore, Keyboard is one of the challenging features on the low-cost laptops that may even affect the number of sale of a mini laptop.

Laptop magazine and the writer of Lilliputing have done test on the keyboards of Mini-Note, Eee PC, and Classmate PC 2 (2go PC). The results are interesting.

Laptop magazine did the test on the three low-cost laptops with the help of four typists. They made a contest Based on the average words per minute. Each of the typists tested these three mini laptops and typed with them for a certain period time. HP mini-note became the winner of contest because of its more spacious keyboard. The HP mini-note’s keyboard is only 8% smaller than a full-size keyboard.

“The HP Mini-Note easily conquered the Eee PC and the 2Go PC. Our typists produced an average of 53.25 wpm on the Mini-Note; despite concerns about its lack of tactile feedback… the average scores for the 2Go PC and the Eee PC were surprisingly close. The Eee PC had an average word per minute score of 44.75, while the 2Go PC slid in just below it with 44.25.”

Now, let us look at the result of the test that Lilliputing did on its Eee PC and HP mini-note. The writer used the same typing test as was used Laptop Magazine test. But interesting part is that result is some different.

According to this test Eee PC keyboard acted better (1% error rate) than HP mini-note although, it is smaller and more cramp that HP’s. This writer cored 77 words per minute by HP mini-note white he could score 83 words per minute on the Eee PC!

As you see the matter of keyboard is more individual. This writer felt more comfort on HP-‘s keyboard but his typing was slower because the distance between keys was more than Eee PC. On Eee PC he could type faster but after a while typing became cumbersome.

So, it shows that we should consider two factors together when we are reviewing a keyboard. The factor of the average words per minute and the factor of comfort mean how long you can type with the keyboard.

When we look at these two factors, first the difference wpm between Eee PC and HP is not a lot and second HP mini note’s keyboard is more comfortable. So, we should announce the HP’s keyboard the winner.
