Cyber Monday 2008 Deals: Acer Aspire One AOA110-1113 for just $249.99 at NewEgg

To be honest with you, I felt that it is one of the top deals of Cyber Monday 2008 at Newegg.com. A laptop for just $249.99! It is too good to be true. Well, the regular price is $299.99. Thus, there is a $50 discount just for Cyber Monday 2008. The OS is Linux based and the processor is Intel Atom N270(1.60GHz). No problem for me. I know that some users may think that it is not powerful enough. Yes, I agree with you but then think of the price again, please.

Display is 8.9", 512MB RAM and 8GB Solid State Drive. Don’t feed discouraged because Acer Aspire One AOA110-1113 weight is just 2.19 lbs. and there is built in camera. I liked the thing that it has 3 USB ports and LAN.

What I feel is that it is good for basic computer usage. Of course, I know that many consumers may not like it for various reasons and I agree with them. However, if you don’t have a big purse this holiday season then Acer Aspire One AOA110-1113 can be the right thing for you.

Cyber Monday 2008 Deals: Compaq – Presario CQ50-215NR with AMD Athlon Dual-Core Processor for $399.99 at Best Buy

If you have not bought anything at Black Friday 2008, then this is the deal that I surely ask you to take a serious look. The price looks really unbeatable. I just hope that store pickup facility was available for the laptop so that it could save some shipping expense.

One good thing is: “Windows Vista Home Premium with SP1 preloaded”. AMD Athlon X2 QL-60 Dual-Core Processor is something that will attract many users. Because of this processor, the users will be able to work on several things at the same time.

We know that RAM is very important just like processor and there is 2GB DDR2 memory and if you want then you can expand it to 3 GB. Thus, Compaq – Presario CQ50-215NR laptop is ideal for serious users. I was thinking that with such a cheap price, many be the display or hard disk would be below par. Well, 15.4" widescreen display and 160GB hard drive is cool. NVIDIA GeForce 8200M graphics will ensure good quality graphics too. 6.4 lbs. and 1.7" thin size both are good too.

The only thing I did not get too much excited about is battery life of 2 hours and 15 minutes. Then, what you can expect for $399.99 at Best Buy? The regular price is $549.99 and there is discount of $150.00 for Cyber Monday.

VIA Nano processor Coming in 2010

The news os VIA Nano Processor caught my attention because I am bored with the unending competition between Intel and AMD. It has been going on for many years and Intel is always ahead by a huge margin. So, the arrival of VIA with its nano processor has given me some freshness. This processor is expected to come in the middle of 2010. Thus, it seems that there are still around 19 months left. I am excited with this news for another reason. I am optimistic that this processor will be powerful and will increase computing power.

I also hope that this nano processor will help to make netbooks more powerful but cheaper.

Dell Mini 9 with 3G?

We have heard a lot about 3G in mobile phone. Well, this is a thing for wireless devices. So, it is nice to find out that Dell Mini 9 is going to have 3G option too. Not only that, AT&T is going to give this 3G option in the US for the users. I am happy for it because Dell Mini 9 is not a very expensive laptop. Thus, it shows that 3G is coming to all the laptops.

10-inch Acer Aspire One Coming Soon

For low cost laptops, display is a big issue that most users complain about it. TO be honest with you, I was too much eager to buy Asus Eee PC but when I saw that display of 7 inches then I understood that I would not be able to browse Internet smoothly and as a blogger display is very important- I decided not to buy it. Of course, I liked the price of Eee PC. I am happy to see that Acer is bringing a 10-inch Aspire One laptop. I could not find any information about its price but I wish that it becomes a sub $500 laptop. Then, it will be a great thing to buy.

Apple is Pushed to Launch a $600 Netbook-Like Laptop in H1 2009

Apple is famous for its stylish high-priced productions like Mac laptops. Apple is proud of it. And it has always shown that it wants to keep this strategy all the time. However, nowadays the economic recession has changed the strategies of all Companies and consumers in the terms of production and shopping. Nowadays consumers prefer to save more money than looking for fashionable chic ones as they did in past.

So far, Apple has tried to show that it doesn’t care what is happening these days and still wants to keep sticking to its strategy. if you remember that last month Apple CEO Steve Jobs emphasized how much Apple was reluctant to produce a Netbook as it looked like a piece of junk for Apple.

So, this is really shocking news to hear that Apple is going to launch its first netbook with the price of $599 in first half of 2009. However, Apple has tried alot convince us that their upcoming low-cost laptop is not exactly a netbook, but it only resembles a netbook!

Computer World reported:

Apple won't compete directly with netbooks on price or size, Gottheil maintained, but will have to respond with something he characterized as an "entry-level notebook" that could compete with the $300-$500 price tags of most netbooks.

According to the source, Apple’s Netbook will be a MacBook-like laptop to come with lighter-weight and slenderer thickness and it will be “more paper-sized, with more screen than most netbooks”. Apple will try to keep its way of designing chic chassis for laptops for its netbook as well.
The Macbook –like Netbook will feature a touch-enabled screen and a flash memory rather than a standard hard drive plus extra online data storage.

I think this is really important news for the market of Netbooks. As Apple revolutionized the design of ultra portable laptops by introducing its Macbook Air, there is a possibility that Apple creates the same sense in the market of Netbooks. Therefore, if it happens we will expect emergence of new category of low-price laptops or a new category of netbooks with slightly higher prices but much more various attractive designs.

The second matter is that whether the new budget Macbook–like laptop to become the serious competitor to the current MacBooks.

And in the end the third matter is so far, we have seen that Although Mac laptops are expensive ones, they are very popular in the market and have their particular fans. The upcoming Apple’s netbooks will be more expensive than all the most successful netbooks in the market today. If Apple’s netbook can create the same wave for itself in the market, will Apple overtake Asus and Acer in the terms of netbook sales?

Hello Kitty C1 Is a Netbook But not in the terms of Price

Hello Kitty laptops are expensive ones but they have their own special fans that are ready to spend as much as needed to have one Hello Kitty laptop.

After one year passing from the existence of Netbooks in the market, at last Hello Kitty C1 Netbook has emerged in the market for its fans.

Although, Hello Kitty C1 follows every typical feature of current Netbooks such as 1.6 GHz Atom processor, and 1GB of RAM, it doesn’t follow them in the terms of price. Hello Kitty C1 is much cheaper than any Hello Kitty laptop has been released so far but much more expensive than any Netnbook.

The system is priced at $890. The design is very simple and not so much attractive compared to earlier models. Laptop is covered with gray white-clad. There is a one big pale image of it one at one corner and rest of the lid is covered with the repeated text of "Hello Kitty".

MacBooks & Mac Pros Only Deliver the Max Performance When Battery Present

Apple’s New MacBook and MacBook Pro laptops have been welcomed warmly since releasing. However, these two popular laptops come with some odd problems that rarely you can face them using laptops form other brands. So far there are many complaints against the glossy screen and some against the keyboard have been posted by MB and MBP users to engadget. Well, it seems this is not the only problems that many users have had so far.

There is a new and important problem have been discovered by gearlog. The story is that If you wish for acquire the best performance from your new MB or MBP you will have to leave your battery in the machine all the time and never go through mere A/C just for extending the lifetime of your battery.

The Cinebench R10 test have been tried on a MBP once with Battery and another time one MBP without battery. The margin of two scores was significant!
The first test attained a score of 5,549 while the second test showed much lower score of 3,504. Means that the system with the battery removed will show 37% performance decrease.

The interesting part is that Apple has already mentioned this problem in its Apple's support Web site. However it has tried to show that it is not a significant issue. My only question is that when a consumer spends heft money on a well-known machine from a well-reputation company, is it really worthy to face these kinds of problems? We never expect that well-known companies like Apple put their consumers in such odd conditions after spending trust and good sum of money.

Eee PC 1002HA First impression: Eee PC 1002HA= Eee S101+ Eee 1000H

Asus Eee PC 1002HA is Asus’ an upcoming Netbook that is going to be the successor of Eee PC 1000H. Asus is launching it with the retail price of $499 on December 1st onwards. So, it is really nice to know what Asus is bringing for the consumers with its new Netbook.

Laptop Magazine could have its hands-on a preliminary Eee PC 1002HA Netbook.
The writer has described the new Netbook in one sentence that: Eee PC 1002HA=Eee S101+Eee 1000H

“The best way to describe it: if the Eee PC 1000H and the Eee PC S101 had a night of passion (compete with Barry White music) and forgot to use the necessary protection the result would be an Eee PC 1002HA.”

If you remember Eee S101 is a 10.2-in slim ultra portable laptop that doesn’t follow Netbooks in the terms of price and network connectivity, high quality of design and chassis.

Here, I am collecting all the advantages and disadvantages of 1002HA Netbook all together:

(Pros):
- It is thinner than its predecessor; less than one inch thick
- It resembles Eee PC S101; it has taken a lot of design of S101
- The brushed-metal aluminum lid is flashy and attractive (this is the good thing that Netbooks complete in the term of design. They often come with attractive fashionable design
- It comes with the large keyboard of 1000H, but with the wide trackpad of S101
- 5 hours battery life

(Cons):
So far, laptop magazine has not mentioned any weak point or disadvantage of this new Netbook.

The laptop features a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom processor, 1GB of RAM, 160GB hard drive and Windows XP Home pre-installed.

Dell’s Inspiron Mini 9 and Mini 12 Turn into To Chic Netbooks by Artistic Designs

If you are tired of simple plain designs that many laptops offer you can look for laptops with artistic paint designs that Dell has offered like Dell Studio 15 and 17 laptop or Inspiron 1525 art Edition with artistic designs. This time Dell is offering its new Mini 9 and Mini 12 Netbooks with paint designs by artist Tristan Eaton.

These two netbooks are available in five design patterns. A Mini netbook with one of these artistic designs costs $50 surplus more than Mini 9 and 12 with standard designs.

Even if you are interested about these modern designs, Mini 9 and 12 are available in red and pink colors now. If you remember Dell first launched these two colors in Japan.

Eee PC 901: Eight Hours of Battery Life?

Unbelievable! This is the expressions that came to my mind when I saw the report: Eee PC 901 to offer faster SSD, longer battery life in Electronista. I really wish that it comes to my country very soon. Well, I am not sure if Asus is really going to do that or not. I am quoting a small part from the report:

A new ASUS Eee PC 901 model has been spotted for sale in France that offers a high-speed 16GB solid state drive (SSD) along with a new, six-cell 8700mAh battery that is good for 7.2V and should provide users with as much as eight hours of battery life.

I wondered why it was found in France first not in USA? It is time of Black Friday 2008 and many American retailed are worried about the business prospect. Nevertheless, I am impressed with the battery life and I think that Eee PC 901 will become very popular with this kind of battery life.

Some Reflections about Linux based Laptops

The market of laptop is growing and it is becoming the next battle ground of Windows vs Linux. It seems that Linux is making some inroads because it is the age of low cost laptops. Netbooks are getting growing acceptance to consumers of all background. Dana Blankenhorn has initiated an interesting discussion here: From Windows Capable to the Linux laptop. If you are interested about topic then you should join the discussion.

I feel that Microsoft should take note of this matter. This is a brave new world of technology. Microsoft did not give enough importance to the search engine matter and Google filled up the gap. The same way, I can see that Linux may some day overtake Windows OS in the laptop field.

What is your idea about it?

Is OLPC a good thing to Donate?

You know that Black Friday 2008 has come at the time of recession. So, there is a lot of uncertainty hanging over the Christmas shopping. The retailers are worried just like ordinary people about the future. Christopher Dawson has surely given many people some food thought with his entry: $400 XOs and recessions. He has strongly criticized OLPC Give One Get One program and said that it wont bring any benefit for the children of the developed countries. He wrote:

To be fair, any of us who can need to be charitable now more than ever. However, as the world sinks deeper into serious economic problems, little green laptops seem less and less like the answer. On a more pragmatic level, the XO is simply not relevant to kids in developed countries. It will not provide a satisfactory or even useful computing experience to kids whose parents will be buying these things from Amazon. There are too many other outstanding options, both for netbooks for you and your kids, and for your charitable contributions.

I agree with him in this regard but I think that Mr. Dawson is missing a very important thing here. If the people of developed world think of their own benefit then it cannot be a charity- can it? Charity means giving away something without expecting anything.

Media Support Contributing to the Success of OLPC

Western media houses are often criticized as being too much commercial. There is surely a lot of justification behind this criticism. Most of the time, they go for sensationalism and sex and violence are the two topics that they show all the time for earning money. Well, it is nice to see that American main stream media has come in support of OLPC. They have donated air time and ad space. It is helping to spread the message of OLPC. The main goal of OLPC is to bridge the digital divide by giving laptops in the hands of very poor children.

OLPC laptops are less than $200 but it is still very expensive for most people living in the third world countries. So, the give one get one program needs a lot of support from Europe and America. It is great that western media is helping in this regard and encouraging people to support OLPC.

Africa: LAPTOP Magazine Evaluates OLPC Laptops

Mali is not a rich country and very few laptop makers would consider Mali as a significant market for their products. Even Bill Gates would not think of selling too many copies of Windows original and licensed version. So, when I saw this press release in PR Web: LAPTOP Magazine Tests "One Laptop Per Child" Program In Africa then I realized that OLPC is reaching the children there and soon the children of Mali will cross an important bridge in the digital divide.

I am quoting from the press release:

After program kickoff, many students were so excited to work with their XO laptops that they arrived at school more than an hour early each day. Quickly adapting to the operating system, the children were soon writing and taking pictures and video. "The power of collaboration, encouraging children to take responsibility for their learning as well as that of their peers, is one of the main tenets of the OLPC program and witnessing children do just that is remarkable," said Bangoura. The village children have learned to take photos of their parents with the XO, thus sharing the new educational tool with their families.
The Mali program, however, is not all rainbows and butterflies, according to Stern. "Computer charging compatibility and electricity problems have led to the frequent crashing of notebooks. Additionally, in a society where students await direction from teachers and are reluctant to explore independently the learning process does not progress as quickly as anticipated." Due to the limited ability to train teachers in all computer functions the XOs potential has not yet been fully realized.

I am happy that Laptop Magazine has taken the trouble of going to Mali and carry out some tests. This has again reminded us of the good side of OLPC project. If OLPC laptops did not reach Mali then these children would never see a laptop.

OLPC in Europe: Give One Get One

One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) project is spreading day by day in various parts in the world. When the project started a few years ago, many people thought that it may not be a good one. However, OLPC has achieved tremendous amount of success and many children in third world countries can now have a laptop. Now, OLPC has introduced Give One Get One system for European consumers. Under the scheme, people of 27 European countries can order to buy a laptop on the condition that they buy one and donate one. This is a good initiative and many people in Europe will surely enjoy the offer.

BBC wrote:

The plan to put the distinctive green and white XO laptops on sale in 27 European nations was revealed by OLPC founder Nicholas Negroponte in a speech to the World of Health IT Conference in Copenhagen.

When it goes on sale the XO laptop is expected to cost £268 (313 euros) and should be available in 27 EU nations as well as Switzerland, Russia and Turkey.

Many people in the world want to donate something for the poor people. I think that one of the best things they can do in this regard is that they can donate a laptop for a child living in a third world country.

AMD Releases CPU Roadmap; Cheap Ultra Slim Laptops rather than Netbooks?

AMD released its CPU roadmap and its approach within 2008 up to 2011 at analyst meeting on past Thursday. AMD addressed many details about its upcoming CPU platforms and their time frames. 2009 and 2010 are filled up with 45nm technology-based processors and 2011 is the year of 32nm processors.

AMD is releasing 6 platforms for 6 computer categories available in the market including budget ultraportable laptops (instead of Netbooks), mainstream notebooks, business desktop computers, consumer desktop computers, high-end Home Theater PCs and powerhouse Enthusiast desktop computers.

2009 and 2010:

1-AMD is going to release Yukon platform for budget ultra portable laptops. Also, the company is releasing 45 nm technology-based “Conesus dual-core processors featuring 1MB of Cache. In 2010, upcoming 45 nm “Geneva” dual-core CPU with DDR3 support will be the successor of Conesus.

Here, there was a misunderstanding happened about the AMD’s opinion about Netbooks and spread in web by media widely. Cnet has explained very well that AMD told with details in the meeting that why AMD doesn’t like Netbooks for low-power processors lackluster graphics, small screens, and tiny keyboards. Instead AMD is encouraging the laptop makers to make ultra slim laptops like MacBook Air but with budget design targeting the price range of $500-$700.

For this aim, AMD is releasing dual-core Conesus CPU, which will utilize ATI's RS780M graphics to deliver better graphics and better overall performance than what Netbooks do with their Atom CPU or VIA C7 CPU and their integrated graphics.

2- AMD is going to release Tigris platform for mainstream notebooks in the second half of 2009. It Also is launching 45nm “Caspian” dual-core processor featuring 2MB of cache. In 2010, 45nm “Champlain” quad-core processor featuring 2MB of catch with DDR-3 memory support will be the successor of Caspian.

3- In the first quarter of 2009, the Enthusiast Desktop category (ultimate HD media and professional gaming computers) will utilize Dragon platform and 45nm upcoming “Deneb” processor featuring a four core chip and 8 Mbytes of cache with either DDR-2 or DDR-3 support.

4- AMD is launching Maui platform for The Home theater PC category before 2008 finishes.

5- In the second Half of 2009, AMD is releasing a new platform called “Kodiak” for business desktop computer category and “Pisces” platform for consumer desktop category.

Mainstream desktop computers will utilize the upcoming 45nm "Propos," processor in 2009. The processor features a quad-core chip with 2 Mbytes of cache, and support for DDR-2 or DDR-3 memory.

2011:

6- Now the important query is that what has happened to the 45nm Fusion processor which AMD was supposed to release it in 2010? As you know Fusion processor was supposed to be a combination of a CPU and GPU under one hood in the “Shrike” core.

TG Daily reported:

The chip, which was described to combine a CPU and GPU under one hood in the “Shrike” core, was found to only bring modest improvements over today’s platforms in terms of power efficiency, cost and performance. Instead, the company will introduce Fusion (which actually isn’t called Fusion anymore) as a 2011 model in a 32 nm version with llano core. Allen said that 32 nm would be the right technology to introduce the product. Llano will feature four cores, 4 MB of cache, DDR3 memory support and an integrated GPU.

So, as you see that AMD has removed the Fusion processor from the roadmap and instead it is going to produced 32nm technology based processors for laptops and desktop computers.

For laptops, AMD will use 32nm “Ontario” processors which is combination of dual core chip, A GPU, 1MB cache, and DDR3 support.

AMD will use “Orochi” processor featuring at least four cores, 8MB cache, with DDR3 support for the high end Enthusiast desktop category. For rest of desktop computer categories AMD will offer “LIano” processor featuring a four-core chip plus a GPU, 4-Mbyte L3 cache with support for DDR-3 memory.

Netbooks are really necessary these days to the consumers. I am sure that in 2009 or in 2010, most people will feel the need to have a budget ultra portable laptop just the way they feel the need to have a desktop PC. Netbooks are necessary and some people feel the need for them strongly. The way AMD is talking about the budget ultra slim laptops (Mac Air Style) feels the gap between netbooks and standards laptops.

Budget Intel-based Dell Vostro A860- the Netbook Killer Available for $379

Seeing several news items about Netbooks is not a weird matter, anymore, but arrival of budget standard laptops in the price range of Netbooks is a good thing that is gradually happening nowadays in the market. Dell today released a new Vostro laptop that challenges Acer Aspire one, Wind PC and Eee PC 900 series in the terms of price and features.

If a 15.6-inches laptop with the weight of 5.4 pounds seems portable for you yet, Dell Vostro A860 is really a Netbook killer. It really challenges all the popular and leading Netbooks in the market with its basic price and features. Dell Vostro A860 starts from $379. Vostro A860 has been categorized along Vostro 1510. it seems that vostro A860 is the budget form of Vostro 1510.

Good News for Laptop Users: ARM and Canonical Joining Hands

I thought that it was a bad news for Microsoft as this joining hands of ARM and Canonical would promote the use of Linux OS in laptops. However, it seems that Intel has something to worry too. ARM makes small powered processors and it is successful in its field. Now, ARM bosses feel that netbooks can be the perfect niche for them as netbooks need inexpensive processors to keep the cost down.

From a press release:

The combination of a commercially supported, optimized Ubuntu distribution for ARM, together with Canonical's ability to tailor solutions to specific ARM technology-based devices and OEM requirements, ensures that highly-optimized systems can be rapidly deployed into the fast growing mobile computing market. ARM's wide partnership with leading semiconductor and device manufacturers strengthens the mobile computing software ecosystem and extends the market reach for Ubuntu-based products.

"The release of a full Ubuntu desktop distribution supporting latest ARM technology will enable rapid growth, with internet everywhere, connected ultra portable devices," said Ian Drew, vice president of Marketing, ARM. "The always-on experience available with mobile devices is rapidly expanding to new device categories such as netbooks, laptops and other internet connected products. Working with Canonical will pave the way for the development of new features and innovations to all connected platforms."

I will be happy if this move helps to reduce the price of netbooks. Well, most people living in third world countries still cannot afford to buy a laptop.

Looking for more information on laptop? Then read:

The Acer 8.9 Aspire One mini notebook: The new notebook for travellers

CPU Test: Dual-core Atom 330 vs. Single-core Atom N270 vs. VIA C7

comparisons with VIA C7, VIA Nano or Isaiah, Intel Celeron M and Intel Core 2 Due U7600. You can read about these tests in the following entries:
-A First Benchmark: Atom CPU vs. VIA Isaiah vs. Celeron M vs. VIA C7
-2nd Test: Atom vs. Celeron M 353 vs. Core 2 Duo U7600; Wind PC vs. Eee PC 900
-VIA Nano L2100 vs. Intel Atom 230: Real Competition between Two Cheap Makers
-Test Four: VIA Nano CPU vs. Atom Processor: Nano Really Better than Atom!

Also already, I have mentioned a simple test done over Atom 330 that you can read about it here:
Intel Outsets Shipping Dual Core Atom 330; Atom 330 Hands- on: two better than One

This time PCPro could do several tests on dual-core Atom 330 and comare the results with Atom N270 and VIA C7 processors. The results are really interesting. Here I will mention them briefly.

Atom 330 is designed specifically for nettops, which are affordable desktops purpose-built primarily for web surfing, email, and basic Internet usage. The dual-core Atom 330 features a 1.6GHz processing core, 1MB of level 2 cache, an 8W TDP and support for DDR2 667MHz.

PCPro has done its tests on Atom 330 set on an improved mini-ITX motherboard that is equipped with a 7,200rpm SATA hard disk and 1GB of DDR2 RAM running on Windows XP with SP3.

Here are the benchmark results:

-Overall results: Atom 330 performs only 16% faster than Atom N270.
-Office 2003 tests: Atom 330 stayed behind Atom N270 and VIA C7 respectively.
-2D graphics tests: Atom 330 performed 41% better than Atom N270 and 70% better than VIA C7
-Encoding tests: Atom 330 scored 18% better than N720 and 39% much better than the VIA.
-Multitasking tests: Atom 330 performed 47% faster than Atom N270 and Atom N270 performed 44% better than VIA C7.

The nice part is that Atom 330 could do well the processor-intensive tasks, but the writer of article has asked very important question about the battery life. Although Atom 330 performs closer to the CPU that is used in a standard laptop, the battery life will be a critical part by it. The Atom 330 drains battery double than single-core Atom N270. So, the Netbook using Atom 330 will deliver half battery life than the current Netbooks utilizing Atom N270. Even now, users like to have longer battery life on their Eee PC or Aspire One, or Wind PC. so, Will Atom 330 be a as successful CPU as Atom N270 in the market or will it become more popular among nettops, which are affordable desktops purpose-built primarily for web surfing, email, and basic Internet usage?

Black Friday 2008: Asus Eee PC 900A for $280 at Best Buy

No, I am not dreaming and it is not a gimmick either. You get 1 GB RAM. This is true too. It seems that Best Buy has stolen the show today. You cannot find a better deal than this. 8.9" WSVGA widescreen display is cool too. You should not complain about it. It is much better than 7” display.

Yes, I really wish that I could get it. Unfortunately, I cannot get Asus Eee PC 900A for $280 as I live in a country from which I do not have access to Best Buy products. So, I can only dream of having it at $280. However, if you can get it then don’t waste your time in this blog. Run right away and grab one.

AMD Introducing Processors for Netbooks

For many years, AMD is fighting perhaps a losing battle against Intel in the processor market. Intel consistently has 3 or 4 times more market share than AMD. In this age, the battle is mainly in the laptop field as desktop PCs are not having healthy growth compared to laptops. Within the next 5-10 years, there will be almost same number of laptops as desktop PCs. It seems that Intel is ahead in the laptop field. Intel is directly involved in this field with its classmate PC. Intel is also keen to develop inexpensive processors for Netbooks. AMD has largely neglected this market until now, but it is going to be changed from now. Notebooks.com has reported that AMD is going to announce Netbook processors tomorrow. I just hope that it does not become too little too late for the company.

I am curious to see the response from the major laptop makers about these processors. I feel that AMD should focus more on making processors for laptop computers.

OLPC Laptops in Columbia Thanks to Microsoft

I still remember that Microsoft was not keen to join One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) project. Bill Gates is a smart man and he realized that if Microsoft did not join OLPC then the company would lose market share in OS segment in the whole world and it would give Linux a decisive victory in the third world countries. So, he became serious to strike a deal and OLPC bosses welcomed it. Now, many children in Colombia are going to be very happy to have a laptop that would run on Windows Operating System. Before that, Microsoft entered into partnership with government of Peru in this regard.

I live in a third world country and I am happy that Microsoft is becoming serious about OLPC laptops. I feel that it makes a good business sense in the long run for the richest company in the world.

Pre- Black Friday Deal 2008: Toshiba Satellite Satellite L305D-S5895 Laptop for $500

Toshiba is giving a good discunt on its Satellite L305D-S5895 laptop with AMD Turion X2 Dual-Core Mobile Technology TL-60 processor. Aside from this features, the laptop also provides with some other attractive features. The laptop comes pre-loaded with Windows Vista Home Premium service pack 1 operating system. Thanks to its Atheros 802.11b/g wireless LAN, users can easily get access to internet through local area network or wireless hotspots. The latest laptop from Toshiba Satellite series also comes with SuperMulti double-layer DVD±RW/CD-RW drive by which users can create personalized multimedia discs.

The laptop also features 3GB PC5300 DDR2 RAM with option of expanding up to 4GB and 250GB Serial ATA hard drive (5400 rpm) and 15.4" WXGA TFT-LCD widescreen display. It has 5 in 1 card reader that supports various types of cards including SD Memory Card, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO, MultiMediaCard, xD-Picture Card. Toshiba provides 6-cell lithium ion battery with this laptop and offers ATI RADEON X1250 graphics.

Well, there are some other important features which you might find very important while deciding which laptop you are going to buy. However, I think, this Toshiba Satellite laptop’s main advantage and the most attractive features is its AMD Turion X2 Dual-Core Mobile Technology TL-60 processor. This processor allows the users to conduct multiple tasks at the same time, but in that case, it does not need to pay toll in its performance. That is what I found very important in this laptop.

Windows 7 20% Faster Than Vista? Is it Amazing?

I started using computer with windows 98 operating system. Well, I remember that those days, the power of computer and operating system was very weak and it took a lot of time to boot a PC. I am a very happy with this news and I’d thing that it is an amazing news. It would help the users a lot and it will make Windows 7 very attractive to many people.

Users are Crazy to Download Windows 7 Pre-Beta

I still use Windows XP and I am satisfied with it. I am not sure that I would like to go for Vista. Now, it seems that many people are interested about Windows 7. Microsoft has not released it yet officially and has only given pre-beta person to some selected people but it seems that many people have got a chance to use it and tested thanks to a torrent sites. Many visits became crazy to download this fashion and it caused a lot of trouble for many sites who are offering the download.

I’m curious to see the response of Microsoft about windows 7 finding its way to the torrent site. After all, Microsoft is totaled a game is any kind of piracy and is working hard in different parts of the world to protect its copyright.
