Snapdragon, a New Non-support Windows Netbook CPU at Computex

Qualcomm unveiled its new processor codenamed Snapdragon based on netbooks yesterday. The company has got great welcomed from laptop and mobile phone makers (ODMs) such as ASUS, Compal, Foxconn, High Tech Computer (HTC), Inventec, Toshiba, and Wistron, and this processor will be demonstrated via several netbooks from the laptop makers mentioned above at Computex Show this week.

The processors only supports Linux distributions (can not run Windows) and enable its users to stay connected unceasingly through GPS, 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity.

This processor is using vastly by 15 companies now on 30 different devices such as netbooks and smartphones.

Qualcomm calling a category between laptops and smartphones smartbooks which will obtain best aspects of smartphones such as simple intuitive usability, and long battery life and combines them with best aspects of laptops such as big screen, greater performance and functionality.

"Constantly connected via 3G, Wi-Fi and GPS, smartbooks are ultra-portable, personalizable, easy-to-use and last all day on a single battery charge. Qualcomm's Snapdragon platform has a unique combination of capabilities that makes it exceptionally competitive in the smartbook category, which is redefining mobility for consumers at productivity and play," the company said in a written statement.

I consider that Qualcomm is trying to bring a new category to netbook market segment which will be cheaper that the current netbooks, will perform fast with running less applications concurrenly, with bigger screen than the ones used in smartphones but more practical and handy!
