Plastic Logic’s QUE ProReader will be launched at the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show

On October 18, 2009, Plastic Logic released pictures of its QUE ProReader. Entirely made from plastic, the QUE ProReader was first unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in January 2009. It will mainly compete with the Amazon Kindle DX. According earlier news reports, the QUE ProReader was supposed to be the first official e-book reader of Barnes & Noble but that did not happen. Earlier in 2009, Barnes and Noble and Plastic Logic entered into a partnership agreement under which, Barnes and Noble will support the QUE store (QUEreader.com.). On October 27, 2009, the two companies announced that the QUE ProReader would also become available in all the Barnes & Noble retail book stores around the U.S. and online at Barnes & Noble.com. The QUE ProReader will be launched at the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Price of the device has not been announced yet.

Here are some of the specs of the device I collected from news reports:

  • Length: 11 inches
  • Width: 8.5 inches
  • Breadth: one third of an inch
  • Weight: Less than many periodicals
  • Display: The shatterproof plastic E Ink Vizplex technology display features Plastic Logic’s pioneering plastic electronics technology. The display also supports touchscreen technology for navigation and other functions.
  • Format: Aside from the 1 million titles available through the QUE store. The QUE ProReader will support a wide range of formats including Adobe PDF. Users would be able to read newspapers, various business journals and periodicals. It will also support MSWord, MS Excel and PowerPoint files. Aside from Barnes & Noble, Plastic Logic has content partnerships with USA Today, the Financial Times, Zinio, LibreDigital, and Ingram Digital.
  • Wireless communication: WiFi and cellular access to AT&T’s 3G data/phone network.
