The Unanswered Market Opportunity: Dedicated Hosting at Affordable Price

If you are a website owner then perhaps the first thing that you have to give a lot of thought is about hosting. When you search about it in Google then you can find many attractive advertisements that within just 10$ per month you get everything you ever dream about. The hosting companies will say that you can get 1 Terabyte bandwidth for just 10$ monthly package. However, when you will see that only 1000 people visit your website at the same time then this dream of terabyte bandwidth vanishes into thin air. I have suffered a lot from this matter in 2009 as I did not have good knowledge about hosting related issues.
Shared Hosting Useless
Shared hosting is a very bad thing if you have a popular website. Even, virtual dedicated server is not good because when you have a lot of visitors coming at the same time then they cannot take the load easily. In fact, if you have shared hosting and one of your entries make the first page of Digg or Fark then the rest can be easily history. Your blog or website may become unavailable for few hours to a few days.  So, if you want to earn money through your blog or website then sooner or later you have to go for a dedicated server and it is not cheap. In fact, most dedicated servers would start from $100 per month and depending on the popularity of your website, you can have to spend much more than that each month.

Google is Giving Hosting Free but……..
Google is offering almost all the abilities of a dedicated server at free of cost through its custom domain support for Blogger platform. It is cool and I use it. For example, a few days ago, I had 39,000 page views in a blog in a single day and nothing happened to my domain or hosting. Google took care of everything and it was very smooth. The only catch is that I have to use Blogger platform for my blog. I am a big fan of Blogger but these days, I have started to like WordPress. However, Google will not allow me to install WordPress in its hosting and that is understandable.

WordPress is no good and Useless
Wordpress.com has free offer but you cannot put your advertisement in it. So, you cannot earn money with your WordPress.com blog. If I want to go for a self hosted WordPress blog then I have to go for dedicated server which is quite expensive for most bloggers and website owners.

The market Opportunity
I am sure that many website owners and bloggers like are dying for something that will be affordable but will have all the features of a dedicated server. Go Daddy is promoting Grid Hosting and I have tested it and I don’t think that it is the answer to my prayer. Grid Hosting is some better than shared hosting but still nothing compared to a dedicated server. Sadly, I don’t see any hosting company becoming interested to fill the vacuum. Most probably, they don’t wan to decrease their profit.

Google is the Last Hope
Since no company is interested to provide this kind of facility at an affordable price and Google is giving us free of cost, I think that it is Google who can make the most out of this unanswered market. Google can just give us some more flexibility and can do one of the following things:
1. It can buy WordPress or Movable Type and gives us the free hosting facility to these blogging programs.
2. It can make Blogger vastly improved and then we will have nothing to complain. I really wish that it gave the option of commenting in same page like WordPress or Movable Type.
3. Google may charge some money from the users to use WordPress or Movable Type in their hosting for custom domains.

Other big players in Internet like Microsoft and Yahoo can come forward too. I am sure that in near future, it will be a very big market. Google is already there and it will surely have huge advantage over others.
What do you think about it?
