Consumer electronics are a winner this Black Friday

Black Friday 2009 has started and lots of shoppers are now on a buying spree. Big box stores and low end stores are observing major crowds while high-end and few apparel retailers did not observe much traffic. Stores like Walmart, Target, J.C. Penny, Best Buy saw large crowds. Consumer electronics products are the biggest winner this year but sales of jewelry and cookware also generated significant amount of sales revenue. The Wall Street Journal reports:

While still very early in the holiday season, the more modestly priced stores seem to be seeing robust demand, while more mid-tier and upper-end are having a slower go of it.

"Most people are here to get the compelling door busters and traffic has significantly died as those have sold out," said Lisa Walters, principal at Retail Eye Partners, a retail research firm.

Crowd controlling was a major issue for retailers this year. Walmart stores around the nation remained open all night to avoid crowd rush. Sam’s Club had forty police officers to handle the crowd. Many people are also doing their Christmas shopping on Black Friday.
