Windows 7 is taking over Mac OS X

It looks like Windows is reaching for its rightful place in the OS market. According to the data of Net Applications, an Internet metrics vendor, on November 28 and November 29, 2009, of all the computers that were online, around 5%-5.14% were run by Windows 7. The two-day average was higher than Apple’s market average of 5% for the week of November 15-21. PC World reports:

"It's safe to say that Windows 7's daily share did peak above Mac's weekly share," said Vince Vizzaccaro, executive vice president at Net Applications, in an e-mail today. Vizzaccaro said his company had not yet compiled daily averages for Mac OS X, something that would be necessary to compare Windows 7's weekend numbers with the same dates for the Mac.

After the devastating sales result of Windows Vista, Microsoft made sure that Windows 7 fulfills all the needs of the readers. Microsoft CEO, Steve Ballmer, announced the release of Beta Version at the Consumer Electronics Show in January 2009. The beta version which observed an initial 2.5 million downloads was widely appreciated by the tech analysts. The OS was finally released on October 22, 2009.

In the week of November 15 to November 21, Windows average stood at 4.15% which was lower compared to Mac OS X weekly average of 5% but Vizzaccaro was sure that Windows 7 would take over Mac OS x for good and it would happen pretty soon. During the week of November 15-21, Windows’ overall market share stood at 92.64% compared to Apple’s October share of 92.52%. Vizzaaccaro thinks that there will be a major surge in Windows usage by the end of this month which is not unexpected but if there is a continuous rise in Windows market share, it would signal major trend change.
