Boxee Box: The new device for Boxee fans

Now, Boxee fans are going to get their own device with remote control called Boxee Box. No taller than a regular coke can, the Boxee Box is designed like a “sunken cube.” Designed by Astro Studios, Boxee Box will be produced by D-Link, a Taiwanese company. It will be launched in the market in the second quarter of 2010 and would cost not more than $200. The device was unveiled on December 7, 2009. Digital Beat reports:

At its launch party today, Boxee Beta debuted to a raucous capacity crowd of 650 people. The vastly improved Boxee Beta user interface is clearly optimized for use with a remote control, allowing for easy content discovery. Through partnerships with Internet TV guide Clicker and social conversation tool Cliqset, the improved social media functions include a simplified interface for finding and sharing content on Facebook and Twitter.

The RF remote control of Boxee Box allows its user to control the device from another room.

A New York based start-up, Boxee, is an open-source software that allows users to watch web-videos on their televisions. The software collects videos from Netflix, MLB.TV, Comedy Central and Pandora and presents them in a friendly format with the addition of some social network features to allow the users to share those videos with their friends. Till date, the software used to run on PC or Mac and Apple TV, the set-top box produced by Apple. Users could also run the application on TV via their laptops that served as set-top boxes. Avner Ronen, CEO, Boxee said that currently the device is not integrated with Netflix but soon will be. Boxee Box will compete with Xbox 360, PlayStation, and Roku.
