ZAGG brings ZAGGbox media aggregator at the CES 2010

At the ongoing consumer show, ZAGG Inc. unveiled ZAGGbox, a high-tech multi-functional media box that combines home entertainment and personal media into one device. With this device, ZAGG made it to the finals of the prestigious CES i-Stage competition held in 2009. ZAGG Inc. mainly develops accessories that protects electronic devices and enhance the experience.

It took six years and an investment of $35 million to develop the ZAGGbox. A partner company (based in Minnesota) produced the device for ZAGG. According to news reports, some of the reputed CE manufacturers in the world will mass produce the device. ZAGG acquired the license to the technology and IP in 2009.

Here are some of the major features of the ZAGG box:

  • The ZAGG box can record, store and play any type of media files including videos, photos, and music. It simultaneously reads and transcodes any video codec into two formats- one for television and the other for Apple iPhone or Apple iPod.

  • The ZAGGbox can operate as a universal remote. Devices attached to the ZAGGbox, which use video switching via analog or HD/SD video cables through IR blasting, can be controlled through an easy-to-use user interface.

  • It can stream all stored video content to a mobile Internet device such as the Apple iPhone.

  • The ZAGGbox can also aggregate video images from security cameras and enables the user to see them on his mobile Internet device.

  • With the ZAGGbox iPhone app, you can control the device with your iPhone. ZAGG is also developing similar applications for other mobile devices.

  • The ZAGGbox also features the Z-Wave system that allows you to automatize your home. It syncs with security systems, HVAC systems, door locks, or lighting. However, this new feature will be available after launch.
ZAGG will start taking pre-orders for the ZAGGbox from January 11, 2010 online through ZAGG.com. The device is expected to hit the stores within the first quarter of 2010. Initial price of the device would range between $500 and $1000. Along with the ZAGGbox, ZAGG is also displaying its ZAGGskins, appSpace, ZAGGsparq at the CES 2010.
