Apple App store is currently the most successful and rich App store in the world with an astounding collection of 2,50,000 apps and counting. All these applications run on Apple iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.
Launched in July 2008, the App store has been a resounding success both among app developers and users. Within six months, the store observed its half-billionth download and within the next four months reached one-billionth mark. However, Apple did not reveal how many were paid downloads and free downloads.
As per 148Apps.biz, Apple store currently has an estimated 2,52,227 active apps for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. In addition, there are also another 49,696 inactive applications that are not available any more on the app store. This makes the total number applications to 301,923 applications.
All these applications have been uploaded by 50,545 active publishers which means on average, developers uploaded 322.7 applications every day on the app store.
This shows that Apple has been able to build up a successful system. However, there are some serious issues that need to be addressed by Apple sooner or later. First, how many of these applications are useful applications? how can you know about these applications? and most importantly, how you can find the ones you really need?
It is a good thing Apple has a rich collection but at the same time, it also has to make sure that app users can easily and smoothly find out applications that they are looking for.
