Apple iTunes users are increasing becoming victims of fraudulent purchases over iTunes store. Users are finding that they are being charged for purchases worth hundreds of dollars on iTunes store they never made.
PayPal processes these unauthorized purchases and said that customers are being reimbursed for these purchases. A PayPal spokeswoman said that the fraud is happening on the iTunes side.
However, iTunes has nothing to do with the frauds. The security measures of iTunes have not been compromised. The users are victims of phishing e-mail messages which lure them to give out their iTunes account information. Fraudsters then purchase items from the store.
Apple said that fraud victims should work with their banks and credit card companies. In emailed statement Apple said, "iTunes is always working to prevent fraud and enhance password security for all of our users,….But if your credit card or iTunes password is stolen and used on iTunes we recommend that you contact your financial institution and inquire about canceling the card and/or issuing a chargeback for any unauthorized transactions. We also recommend that you change your iTunes account password immediately."
Consumers have been complaining about the problem since early 2009 and the number of victims is continuing to grow.
