Google rolled out a new feature on its Gmail that would help users to separate important mails from unimportant ones and would require less time finding out important mails.
Known as “Priority Inbox,” the feature automatically grades email into four categories- important, unread, starred items and everything else. This would help people to become more productive. About the product, Google said that it acts like a “personal assistant” that helps people to focus on the messages that matter.
While talking about the new feature, Keith Coleman, Director, Gmail, said that there are many features that signals the importance of a particular message. He said,
"Basic indicators include if this message is from someone you write to a lot or reply to a lot. Another category is terms - if the word Viagra is in the message, it is indicative of junk mail. And a third factor is something known as static features. That is if the message has been sent to you directly or to you and other people or a list of people."
The feature becomes more efficient the more a user uses it. It also has a priority setting tools to increase and decrease priority status of a message. It helps the product learn about the importance of various mails.
