The patent had been unearthed by a website titled, Patently Apple. It talks about various Apple patents. The patent titled “Transitioning with modes of input” was filed on July 9, 2009 with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and it WIPO published it on January 14, 2010. Paul Costa, a Hardware Engineering Manager at Apple had been named as the inventor.
Pictures submitted in the patent shows that the new Apple iMac screen comes with an adjustable stand that can be moved up and down and the screen can be swiveled to lie flat.
The filing says that the new iMac would run on Mac OS X when used in standard configuration just like a desktop computer using mouse and keyboard but when the user would want to use it like an iPad, the sensors fitted into the device such as accelerometers would detect the change in the orientation of the screen and would start up the iOS with a touch-enabled user interface just like an iPad tablet PC.
In January, DigiTimes reported about Apple creating a touch-enabled iMac and the PC would be sold later this year.
