The new patent application showed that Apple is working on flash re-directors and improved imaging sensors. The flash re-directors would selectively illuminate certain areas of a scene instead of providing light all over the image.
The above picture shows how the new flash technology of Apple would work. There will be an array of flash lights pointed to different directions and the camera will detect where the subject is and turn on the nearest flash.
Apple has been working on improving the photography capabilities on its devices. At the September Music Event, Apple CEO, Steve Jobs, unveiled the iOS 4.1 software that features High Dynamic Range photography technology.
The HDR technology takes different versions of the same picture and automatically modifies the exposure of light for each one and then combines them into a single image with almost perfect color tone and balance. The iOS 4.1 which has already been released has been liked by Apple device users.
This should not come as a surprise. When Apple released the iPhone 4, of all the features of the upgraded iPhone, the feature which Apple pitched was the Face Time video chat. The new iPhone 4 is the first phone that came up with dual camera. The earlier versions had only one camera. No wonder, the company will be toying with a new technology that would further improve the image taking capability of its devices.
Apple also branches out new devices based on its core systems. So, you should not be surprised if Apple comes up with a camera that would be compatible with all its existing product lines.
