Gmail adds new option to change email conversation view

Gmail has come up with a new feature that allows its user to change conversation view. Earlier, Gmail used to present email conversations in threads. A particular thread of messages show emails based on the same subject.

The advantage of threaded message is that you would not have to spend your precious time and energy to organize messages. The messages are automatically organized for you and each message in the thread displays name of the sender and first line of the message.

However, many people do not like this thread message system. Now, there is a good news for these users. If they want they can turn the thread system off. To turn off your message threading, go to Gmail setting and turn off your conversation. Regarding the new conversation feature, Wiltse Carpenter, Technical Head, Gmail said,

The way Gmail organizes mail into conversations is like cilantro. You either love it ... or you hate it. ...

Just as an outspoken minority has banded together in unison to declare their distaste of one of nature's most delicious herbs, some of you have been very vocal about your dislike of conversation threading. So just like you can order your baja fish tacos without cilantro, you can now get Gmail served up sans Conversation View.

You can return to the thread message just by turning on the conversation.

Message threading is one of the prominent features of Gmail since its launch in 2007. However, many people did not like the feature and remained vocal about it since 2007. A petition started in Gmail help forum which eventually had 1896 responses. Many people who use old Microsoft Outlook Express mailing do not like threading.

Gmail, over the years added many new features. Earlier, it introduced a new feature called “Priority Inbox.” It scans important email messages and places the most important ones at the top of the inbox using its own algorithms and user input.
