Internet Explorer 9 will not run without Windows 7 Service Pack 1

Internet Explorer 9, the upcoming version of Internet browser from Microsoft, would require Windows 7 Service Pack 1. Microsoft made the announcement on September 23, 2010.

In answer to an FAQ on Microsoft’s official website, the company said that Windows 7 users are required to install SP1 before they install Internet Explorer 9 while Windows Vista users are required to install SP2. However, the IE9 would not run on Windows XP and older version.

Microsoft unveiled the beta version of IE 9 on September 15, 2010. It has not yet revealed when it would launch IE9 but news reports said that both SP1 and IE9 would become available in the first half of 2011. Many experts think that the IE9 will be launched in April at the time of the annual MIX conference.

On the other hand, the beta version of IE9 still requires four updates of Windows 7 that have been already released. Two of the updates had been released in June while the other two released in August.

This is not an entirely unexpected move from Microsoft because many companies have not yet upgraded their machines and after the news of IE9 came out many IT managers wanted to wait for some time for they do not want to install software twice because the whole process is very complicated.

So, Microsoft pushed the released dates of its Windows 7 SP1 and IE9 so that companies upgrade their machines first.
