Acer Wants China-Taiwan Cooperation in Developing WiMAX

Taiwanese computer manufacturer Acer now wants to see the collaboration between China and Taiwan to create the popular broadband technology named WiMAX. Acer chairman JT Wang during a forum organized in Taiwan’s capital city Taipei asked both the neighboring countries to work together for the development of WiMAX technology in this region.

Mr. Wang also urged China not to spend all its money on the prevalent TDLTE technology which he believes would take 2 to 3 years to reach the maturity.

“By working together, Taiwan and China can create broadband wireless production value of over NT$10 trillion. Let's not let the Apples and Googles take away all of the market. It'll take about two to three years for TDLTE to mature. China should team up with Taiwan on WiMAX,” said Wang during the forum.

Acer chairman also confirmed that the Taiwan dollar’s sudden 4% increase against US dollar was not a big impact on the company as it well-prepared for the situation. Mr. Wang also said that the impact can sometimes be positive and sometimes negative and it depends on portfolio management of company’s assets.

However, Mr. Wang refused to reveal Acer’s fourth quarter target. Here, it should be mentioned that the company lost market share in the US and its netbook sales were largely affected due to the huge popularity of Apple iPad.
