Asus Eee Note EA800 is launched in Taiwan: Hong Kong is the next destination

It looks like Asia would be the first to get the all new Asus Eee Note EA800 formerly known as the Asus Eee Tablet had been released in Taiwan on November 29, 2010 and the device comes with a price tag of NT$6,999 ($230). This will followed by launch in Hong Kong, Germany, Italy and Russia. In the first quarter of 2011, the device will be launched in China and the U.S.

The Asus Eee Note EA800 is an e-book reader cum note-taker. The device is not so sleek in terms of design but it has some great functions. It has a 8-inch TFT-LCD screen offering 64-levels of grey and has a resolution of 1024x768p and 2,450 dpi input sensitivity but it is not E-Ink display. The device has a battery backup of 13.5 hours which compared to other monochromatic eBook readers in the market is not so powerful. It has built-in 2-megapixel camera to take picture of lecture slides and microphone for recording notes and 3.5mm headphone jack for playback. It also has a microSD slot. Here is a video clip:

Aside from reading books and texts, users can take notes using the built-in notepad templates and can store, tag, and annotate their notes. You can also add annotation to your lecture slides that you captured via camera.

The device runs on Linux. Asus first unveiled the device at Computex as Asus Eee Tablet but later renamed Asus Eee Note EA800. The device will also be showcased at the upcoming CES 2011 in Las Vegas.
