The year 2011 will see more sophisticated cyber attacks targeting different “Online platforms” and Apple products. On December 28, 2010, McAfee published its “2011 Threats Predictions” where researchers of McAfee labs discussed about various security threats of 2011.
The report said that compared to 2010, the target platforms of cyber criminals have “changed considerably.” Services like Gowalla, Foursquare, Google TV, Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, Apple TV, iPad, Mac products will face more cyber attacks in 2011 and these attacks will not be limited to traditional email methods. McAfee researchers are expecting more sophisticated cyber attacks.
The report emphasized on Apple, which has long been neglected by cyber criminals. It was Windows that remained the main target of cyber attacks for its larger market share but popularity of Apple products grew significantly over the years. The Mac Observer reports:
“Although historically not a frequently targeted platform by malicious attackers,…the Mac operating system is very widely deployed. McAfee Labs saw malware of increasing sophistication that targets Mac this year; we expect this trend to increase in 2011.…The lack of user understanding regarding exposure on these platforms and the lack of deployed security solutions make a fertile landscape for cyber-criminals.”
Apple introduced some of the top gadgets like iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, MacBook Air. These products are being This rising popularity made Apple products more vulnerable to cyber attacks.
