Google TV partners are requested to halt production till update is released

Logitech, the company that produces the Revue set top box of Google TV, stopped for the time being. Logitech Revue, debuted in early October. It has been rumored that Logitech stopped the production as per the request of Google. News reports also said that Google requested its other partners- Toshiba, Sharp and LG to halt the production of their Google TV-based products.

Digitimes reported that Logitech informed, Gigabyte Technology, its supplier to stop the production from December to January next year and wait for updates. Logitech officials did not comment on the matter.

Google was supposed to display its web TV technology at the upcoming CES 2011 but now it will not be done anymore and official partners of Google TV would also make “last minute changes.”

The reason behind this suspension is the poor review of the Google TV products. Revue and Sony’s Google TV enabled Internet TV did not receive good reviews and sales was not so impressive. Hence, Google is going to further work on its product.

For Google, this is the second product, the company asked manufacturers to suspend production for further modification.

Google TV would compete with Apple TV but failed to do so. On December 21, 2010, Apple TV announced that sales would pass one million before Christmas. Roku is also another company to reach the one million sales figure by the end of 2010.
