Kindle 3 is the best selling products in Amazon.com in the last 15 years

On December 27, 2010, Amazon announced that its third generation Kindle e-book reader has become the best selling product surpassing its early best seller, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.”

The third generation Kindle has become the best selling product of Amazon in the last 15 years. Even iPad owners are buying Kindle ebook reader. However, Amazon never disclosed how many units of Kindle has been sold to the consumers.

Amazon is trying its best to show that Kindle market is unaffected with the advent of tablet PCs but statistics tell the opposite. According to ChangeWaveResearch, from August 1, 2010 to November 8, 2010 market share of Kindle fell to 47 percent while iPad’s rose to 32 percent.

Jeff Bezos, founder and CEO, Amazon.com, said that people like the third generation Kindle ebook reader for it is light weight, one-month battery backup, and Wi-Fi support. Unlike the LCD screen of the tablet PCs, the Kindle e-book reader’s Pearl

e-ink display does not cause “eye-strain” or “interfere with sleep patterns” and readers can also use it under sun-light which is not possible with iPad and other tablets. Last but not least, its $139 price point is another big advantage over tablet PCs that are pricey.
