The new iPad 2 will have three models supporting Wi-Fi, UMTS and CDMA

It has been rumored that the second gen iPad would come in three models supporting Wi-Fi, UMTS and a “Verizon compatible CDMA network.”

On December 28, 2010, Taiwanese publication, DigiTimes, reported this news. It said that Apple would ship about 500,000-5,30,000 units of iPad 2 next year and production would start from the “later half of January”. It had been further tipped by component makers that the ratio of Wi-Fi, UMTS and CDMA models would be 3:4:3.

Majority of the consumers prefer the 3G iPad for it enables them to remain connected with the internet both inside and outside the house. Hence, Apple is now closely working with the network carriers to offer more wireless options on the second gen iPad and satisfy consumers’ needs.

Apple is also working on to improve the “anti-smudge and anti-reflective” features of the iPad2 to compete against Kindle and attract more consumers.

Apple is going to produce an estimated 40 million iPads next year accounting for approximately three quarters of the worldwide tablet market.

Amazon recently reported that the rise of iPad did not affect its business. In a recent statement, Amazon announced that not only the Kindle 3 has become the best selling product of the online retailer this year but also the all time best seller in the last fifteen years. However, statistics show that tablet PCs are eating into the e-book reader market.
