In January, Samsung would unveil its Android based digital media player that would compete with Apple’s iPod Touch. Dubbed “Galaxy Player,” the device would be able to take photos, connect to the Internet. The device will be unveiled at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show 2011.
The news of the Samsung Galaxy Player was first reported by a blog called Samsung Hub on December 27, 2010. Modeled after the highly successful Samsung Galaxy S smartphone, the Galaxy Player would have all the features except phone calling capability. Just like Apple has a wide range of products under its iPod series, Samsung would offer its own product lines under the Galaxy series.Samsung would launch the device in January at its home market.
The Galaxy Player will be 2.2 mm thick. It would sport a 1GHz Hummingbird processor and a 4-inch LCD screen with resolution up to 800X400 pixels. The device supports Wi-Fi and has a front-facing camera for video chat and upload user’s photo online and a 3.2 megapixel rear-mounted camera. It would be available in 8GB, 16GB and 32GB storage capacity. It will have Android 2.2 Froyo.
Other features include SoundAlive audio enhancing technology, GPS, Bluetooth 3.0, HD video-playback capability, microSD card slot and a 1200 mAh removable batter. The device would also be able to access Android Market and Samsung Apps.
AT CES 2011, Samsung would also show off other Android based media players such as the YP-G50 and YP-GB70.
