Verizon iPhone is reported to be released on Valentines Day

Bloomberg Businessweek reported that the much awaited Verizon iPhone might be launched in February on the Valentines Day of 2011 and it will be one big event. Obviously, you can expect thousands of people rushing to their nearest Apple store to get their hands on the first Verizon iPhone.

The Verizon iPhone is one of the most awaited devices of 2011. Apple’s exclusivity contract with AT&T would end in 2011 and many users are eagerly waiting for a Verizon iPhone. Bloomberg Businessweek said,

Apple's introduction of an iPhone for use on Verizon's network will come sometime after the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in early January, according to a person familiar with Apple's plans who is not authorized to discuss them publicly.

Aside from new users, many existing iPhone users would switch carriers after the iPhone is launched on Verizon but they would have to pay a hefty Early Termination Fee (ETF). Earlier, the ETF was $175 which was later increased to $325.

iPhone users are not very happy with the service of AT&T. New York and San Francisco, which has large concentration of iPhone users observe lots of dropped calls. AT&T has been working on to improve its network infrastructure but it did not make any significant change. On December 6, 2010, the carrier came up as the worst carrier in the U.S in a survey conducted by Consumer Reports.

However, Verizon also has its shortcomings. Unlike AT&T’s GSM network that can simultaneously handle voice and data, Verizon’s CDMA wireless network can not do so. Hence, the network is working on to improve its network. Let’s see, if Verizon can handle the insatiable data demand of the iPhone users.
