Apple App Store hits 10 billion download

Apple App Store has hit 10 billion download on January 22, 2011. On January 14, 2011, the company started its online counter. This is another major milestone for the Apple App store. The 10 billionth app downloader will receive $10,000 iTunes Gift Card.

Thanks to the ever rising popularity of the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPads, every day thousands of iOS device owners around the world are downloading various apps.

The interesting thing about this achievement is that even before the launch of the Verizon iPhone 4, Apple App store achieved this milestone. It would be only a matter of time, the App store would see 100 billion download. However, Apple never released the actual number of for purchase apps and free apps download.

The Apple App Store was launched in July 2008 with an initial collection of 500 apps. In less than one year, the app store saw one billionth app download. In early December 2010, Apple announced that the App store would not have any beta, demo or trial versions of its apps.
