Apple signed a new non-exclusive contract with AT&T aside from Verizon this means there is a possibility for iPhone to become available on T-Mobile and Sprint as well.
From now on Apple will not get into any exclusive contract with any carrier. Apple COO, Tim Cook, said, “we are not in a contractual exclusivity now in any country in the world; the last one was the US. We have moved away from those.” Cook also said that in several markets, when they moved out from “exclusive carrier agreement to dual-or multi-carrier agreement” their market share increase.
However, Cook did not comment if Apple would launch its CDMA iPhone 4 in other markets. On January 17, 2010, Steve Jobs took his third leave of absence and appointed Tim Cook to look after Apple’s “day-to-day” operations.
Absence of Jobs worried investors but Apple’s holiday sales result eased their concern. On January 18, 2010, Apple posted the financial result of its holiday quarter results. Profit rose 78 percent driven by the sales of iPads, iPhone and Mac PCs. Net Income rose to $6 billion or $6.43 per share from $3.38 billion or $3.67 in 2009. Sales gained 71 percent to a record $26.7 billion with high demands of iPhone 4, iPad and new MacBook Air laptops.
