Google may not be able to buy Groupon, the online coupon serving website, it will not sit quietly. The search engine giant is well on its way to start its own local-deals website called “Google Offers.” The site is reported to be in the test phase.
Leading tech-website, Mashable, published pictures of a factsheet sent to them by a reliable source. The fact sheet says, “Google Offers is a new product to help potential customers and clientele find great deals in their area through a daily email,”
Google Offers operates the same way as Groupon or LivingSocial. Users receive an e-mail containing a deal offered via email. The user would have to accept the deal within a given hour and if enough people accept the deal, it will be “confirmed” or “on.”
Powered by Google Checkout, Google Offers enables users to share via email, Facebook, Twitter, Google Reader and Google Buzz.
Google is now communicating with different business organization to work with Google Offers. The company even assembled a writing team to create contents for the offers.
Last year, Google tried to acquire Groupon for $6 billion making it the biggest acquisition offer in the company’s history but it turned down the offer and is preparing for $15 billion IPO.
